Hi guys/gals! I'm a long-time Sonar, Cubase, and Project5 user who recently picked up Live 8. I haven't had much time to spend with it yet, but I plan on getting up to speed with it over the next week or so and I'm wondering if any of you who have the Ableton Live 7 Power! book could answer a couple of questions for me:
1) Is it much better than the owner's manual? I have the Power! books for both Sonar and Cubase and IMO the Sonar version is excellent and goes way into detail not found in the reference manual, whereas the Cubase version is pretty weak IMO and not even as good as the reference manual. How would you rate the Live version in that regard?
2) Is it worth getting for learning the basics of Live 8? In other words, are the basics of version 7 and 8 similar enough that I won't be totally confused by reading a book for a previous version?
Thanks!

I used Live 5 Power! or whatever its equivalent at the time was. I though it was pretty helpful. You can probably find a used copy.

Re: Ableton Live 7 Power! Book
I was in the same boat, i read Ableton live power 6 but owned a copy of v7. and I was able to follow. most Ableton resources do a good job pointing out when a new feature or functionality has been added to a particular version or you can look in the manual or built in lesson for the new changes in Live. for the most part Live's interface and look never really changed. i wouldn't know if I was looking a V5 or V7 screen shot unless I started poking around in the Set and saw some of the newer Fx's and racks

Re: Ableton Live 7 Power! Book
im reading live power 7 right now and it is a bit long winded, explains every button in detail... i wish there were more examples on ways to build up your tracks in a certin style ie house or techno with specifics... i guess thats just books for you - they are ok to a point.
