Hi, I am going to change the PC in my studio as it's now rather long in the tooth and starting to slow down.
Given that I am planning to stick with Windows XP Pro, how does the following setup sound, will it be ok?
6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600MHz)
Asus PT6 SE Board
Intel Core I7 920
I use Live 7, Soundforge 6 and CD Architect 5.
Cheers

Which version of XP Pro, 32 bits ou x64? A 32-bits OS can only handle 3.25GB of RAM, so you 6GB will be overkill. RAM is cheap, however, and you might want to use Win 7 in a few months, so, why not.
i7 920 is an excellent choice, and the new revisions (stepping) seem to overclock pretty well.

Yeah would be 32bit xp. But as you say, I'm thinking about the future and don't plan to upgrade or change anything for 3-4 years.Gab wrote:Which version of XP Pro, 32 bits ou x64? Core i7 is the way to go. My new mac pro is using two exclusive(apple only) xeons based on the i7 chipset and they are work hard at low voltage. DDR3 is a big step for using sample-based instruments like kontakt, east weast, and Live's Sampler. Not sure how much it would cost on the pc side, but its its anywhere near $2400, you should pm me on how you can get the new 2009 mac pro 8 core, which has two quadcore i7 Xeons.
Oherwise, enjoy the new chipset, and you got it right...ASUS in the top 3 motherboards for PC. Foxconn is the other (they make Apple's boards) and Gigabyte is an alternative to ASUS (they were once merged...not sure if that is still so).
