Just seen a TV ADVERT for Deadmau5' album
I didn't think anyone advertised CDs on TV anymore, let alone someone as 'underground' as the ol' DM... Maddun'!

With a top 40 UK chart hit, and an album released on Ministry, how underground is he?

This guy is now as mainstream as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake or Beyonce these days and makes Justice and Tiesto seem like uber indie underground artists, in spite of being one of the most average-mediocre DJ/electronic musicians of recent times. He must have one hell of a good promoter/manager - that's all I can say. If it's as easy as wearing a silly mask, we should all do it immediately and start rolling in the coin
Baggsy I get the DeadPluto mask, love those floppy dog ears and goofy smile !!

I know what you mean. His album isn't actually that bad, although it drags on. Every track is twice as long as it needs to be, but I suppose a half hour album wouldn't have got him signed.

We have some brave people here who admit to actually owning the Deadrat album. These people are right up there with Iraq war veterans in their bravery for me
Hopefully you won't be left with post traumatic stress disorder after listening, but I wouldn't guarantee it ...

Well at least that beats the hell out of the shit Celtic music infomercials we get here in the states. And they always have to do a Celine Dion song. Her or Bryan Adams. Why? And they look like they got dressed in the 70's, and I'm not talking Disco 70's. I'm talking senior prom 70's. WTF?

Not really. How do you compare cleverness with being underground? If you're referring to his success, then yeah he's clever but he's still mainstream now.SubFunk wrote:or how clever? depends on how you look at it.timwright wrote:With a top 40 UK chart hit, and an album released on Ministry, how underground is he?

i mean the succsess, it's a tricky game and for me difficult to judge, cause i often don't know the border... are you automatic mainstream because you have popular succsess? or does your music become good or bad because loads of people like it?timwright wrote:Not really. I don't think it changes whether the music is good or bad. But mainstream is mainstream. If it's in the charts then you have officially crossed from underground to mainstream.SubFunk wrote:i mean the succsess, it's a tricky game and for me difficult to judge, cause i often don't know the border... are you automatic mainstream because you have popular succsess? or does your music become good or bad because loads of people like it?
Don't assume that mainstream = bad, but that was kinda the point I was getting at earlier on. Does he really have to be underground for his fans to stay loyal?? I'll bet there's a few who jump off the bandwagon if he continues to become more commercially accepted.
