Help W/ PadKontrol and FarmPad Mac config issue

Post by taskrok » Fri May 15, 2009 5:13 pm

hey all,

Im having some trouble with setting up my padkontrol in Native mode with ableton.

I've installed Farmpad, and i CAN get it to initialized.
But when i try and load the sample config files, either 1, its not working, or two i'm just not able to tell if it is working due to a lack of experience w/ it.

I tried the basic scene switch config, and as far as i can tell, if loaded correctly, i should be able to use the knob to switch between scenes. But no luck.

Ive gone through this and the Korg forums all week trying to resolve this.

There really isnt that great of info out there, maybe i'm missing a more thorough walkthrough?

suggestions?

thanks so much

I'm not sure if you can use a knob to change scenes. you have to hold a button, then select a pad similar to the way the kP ships.

you can tell if it loads your config file because the terminal will tell you.
You will see it loads or get an error when you launch farmpad with the config file.

thanks doc holiday!

it must be something i'm doing to load the file.

i'm typing farmpad -c (then dragging the file into terminal for the path)

then pressing return, and i'm getting nothing.
this gets me one step closer though, at least i know i'm not seeing what you've described!

again thx for your time.

yeah trust me, your step sequencer has had me drooling for a bit now!

Its part of the reason i bought the PadKontrol.

I'm actually at work right now, so i cant post, but as soon as i get home i'm going to work on this.

But from what i seem to remember, i press return after draggin the txt file to get the path, and terminal just reads it as a carriage return. Nothing, it just jumps to the next line.

gotta be something i'm doing

You need to set up your config file with instruction that encoder selects scnes, it's in the readme file but i've not got it with me, it's how i've got mine configured!

be sure to include a space after the -c. farmpad will report an error loading the file if it has one.
If i remember correctly it gives you the line number with the error if you have done something wrong.

if i see the terminal output i'll be able to help.

Ok so i believe i'm on the right track.

What i was doing was going to the terminal and typing farmpad

then it would give me:
Connected to padKontrol.
Entering active mode.
Active mode entered.

and after that i was trying farmpad -c (path to config)

but i think i'm supposed to just do
farmpad -c (path to config) at the beginning

i guess my issue now is that i'm not sure how to use the default configs such that i can tell if everything is working.

this is a capture of what i've tried to do

Image

seems like this may be it but i'm not really sure where to go next.

thanks again.

sweet! that was it.
I went through the scene.txt config file and figured out what was going on.
Now when press the hold flam roll buttons i'm able to switch through scenes.

I'm a little confused though, how is this different from using the default mode that the PK comes with, and switching scenes by holding down the scene btn.

I guess i'm struggling to figure out why this is even necessary.

I hope i dont seem like a total noob, i'm trying to put this together.
thx

now you can load the config files :)

there are a couple differences. the main one being you know can control the lights on the padKontrol.
to me the biggest issue with the padKontrol is that the lights are useless by default. they do not give feedback.

it sounds like you can use a rotary to select scenes, i dunno i never tried it.
there is more then just the lights. by default the pK supports 16 scenes, my config gives the pK 64 scenes.
