hello all !
how the heck do you record an instrument thru a mic via an audio interface and a backing track (midi, etc) and be able to hear backing track thru headphones, so i can play with backing!! confused newbie thanks for any help john

oh so sorry ! i have a hp laptop w/ vista 64 bit sp1 and a m-audio mobile pre usb!! what i would like to do and i'm sure Live can do it! i have several backing tracks (midi form) i downloaded like 'fields of gold', 'you got a friend', i would like to play them (thru my headphones) and play my saxophone thru my sm57 shure mic thru audio interface into Live 7 and record both !! i can get the recording of the sax into live but i can not get the backing track to do anything? any help would surely be appreciated!! i have been watching some of the tutorials but haven't found one for this condition! thanks again john

How do you playback your backing midis, you can simply load or drag and drop those midis into Live and route them to a synthesizer (vsti or hardware synthesizer), then you can record into whichever tracks you armed. After recording your saxophone you can press on play and you would hear your backing tracks plus your saxophone, if you like the result you can render everything into a single .wav file.
Actually there is no reason why this should not work. This feature is called simply "recording". Arm the tracks you want to record into, press F9, then space.
