Agreed, but that gets back to my master scheduling of only hanging out with fellow drunks. I've had the misfortune of showing up late and sober to parties where everybody is already bouncing off the walls. Drunks are truly annoying individuals when you aren't at the same level.ewistrand wrote:Au contraire! There's nothing more irritating than the drunk who repeats the same old stories (that usually weren't that interesting and/or funny to begin with). In general I only go to friend's houses that I know will be placing a drink in my hand within minutes of arrival. True friends. Bonding the only way we know how.
Also in general people who don't drink are usually excruciatingly boring. Very few people have that much energy or excitement naturally. You don't find me rolling with the "high on life" crowd.

i dont know if this has been said yet, as this is a huge thread and i am only on page 2
If you are trying to find out if your an alcoholic, the people from AA would advise you to not drink for 30 days and try a couple of meetings, esp go to a speaker to hear someones life story. you will know very shortly if you are in the right place and need to say.
The other half of the room would tell you to go out and drink and see if anything gets better.
I am speaking from personal experience here. My parents put me in treatment for hanging out in clubs, eating psychadellics, smoking the shiva, and having too much fun in high school. Since being an adult i have gone to meetings before (of my own free will) when things got bad and i figured it couldnt hurt. As I've gotten older I have def mellowed in my day, but i still have drinks daily after work. but being 35, i just cant get down like i used to.
on a lighter note some people are functional alcoholics.
Ron White makes a living out of it.
if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.
best wishes,
michael

No. Not because I don't think talking to alcoholics etc. is a good idea, but because as you can plainly see by all the posts here, there will be tons of borderline alcoholics who will troll the subject with half formed irrational BS in order to make themselves feel good about wasting their life away drunk.serge_a_storms wrote:So, Is anyone willing to share there experiences of the run up to admitting they were an alcoholic.
Politics and religion are heavy, and get people going here, but actually changing things in your life to better yourself, that go against a popular drug of choice for most people for example, well that's the area where this forum turns to total shit.

I DON'T HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM
EXCEPT FOR WHEN I CAN'T GET A DRINK
EXCEPT FOR WHEN I CAN'T GET A DRINK
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Actually dude (poster with most likely the coolest name on the board IMO), you are pretty much spot on. The Ableton Forums is certainly a great place to learn about Live and other music stuffs. It's a great place for pseudoretardo's like myself to fan their egos, get up on their matchboxes and do a little preaching and what not, but Alcoholism is SERIOUS and it destroys countless thousands of lives each year. Good can come from discussing it anywhere when someone is reaching out as the OP seemed to be, but tossing it out to be volleyed among a bunch of goddamn drunks (thanks Walter/Jeff Dunham), is most likely going to detract from two extremely important ongoing processes. Namely, the Ableton Forum and the Alcoholic Recovery process.
