Buy a "sodding" (whatever that means) Xbox. Xbox has far better games and far more of them. While PS3 may be a stronger console, that doesn't matter at all if there aren't any games to play on it.

Since Xbox is a Microsoft product then it's really not surprising there's more available for it a la PC vs. Mac, but I think you are being a little extreme on the game availability between Xbox and PS3. Most of the newer games seem to come out on both platforms.

But I am curious, could you tell me what's available for the Xbox only that would convince me it's worth purchasing? I know there's a handful of zombie games which I find odd that 1 platform would corner the market on zombie games.

And just like the PC vs. Mac thing I think part of it is the Windows techie fanboy developers are going "fuck other platforms!" while sucking Microsoft's tit. But I dunno, maybe there's some other complicated licensing and development BS going on behind the scenes. But if the vast majority of developers develop for multiple platforms why do a handful say fuck that?

The biggest reason developers release an exclusive on the 360 is that they have a contract with MS to do so (same thing happens with Sony exclusives), or the dev studio is actually owned by MS, which amounts to the same result. Beyond that, developement time on more than one platform costs more money, so smaller studios are going to release on the platform that they think will show the greatest return. I think the issue of developers being fanboys is not really widespread enough to be significant - the issue is economics. Sony's numbers have been dwindling quite a bit in the face of the 360's bigger library and better online functionality for quite some time now, unfortunately. I'm no fanboy, as I like to see competition between these companies that we can all benefit from as gamers. The sad reality is that Sony is getting trounced these days because of some poor decisions they've made over the last few years. If you're interested in the numbers, what games are available on the 360 that aren't available on the PS3, etc. there's plenty of info online about that.

My hope is that Sony gets back on the ball, starting with an online service that's worth a damn. It may be free, but who cares? I pay $50 a YEAR for Xbox Live, and it's quite good (although not without flaws).

Yeah... what nick said.

I would recommend the xbox for its Live capabilities:

-Partys
-Community Games
-Demos, Live Arcade, Movies, Origional Xbox games
-1 vs 100!

...Halo 3

Good points. Makes sense with exclusive contracts by either company to get people to buy their console, although I can't think of anything that is only on the PS3, but I'm not that big of a gamer. I think the thing that pisses me off the most about the PS3 is only making some consoles backwards compatible. I think that was a major fuck up on Sony's end and I really don't know what they were thinking.

I'm also not a big fan of networked games unless it's something that maybe just me and a friend or 2 can play. I have no interest in battling it out with a 14-year-old who plays games for 5+ hours a day and kills me in seconds.

Halos...seen them, don't get the hype. My cousin works for the developer (don't think they are part of Microsoft anymore) and was a game tester for all 3. He tries to cinvince me his job isn't all that great. All jobs suck on some level but as far as I know game testing is the only job he's had straight out of college. I think if he tried anything else for a living he'd be begging them to give him back his game playing gig. That's got to be right up there with rock stars bitching about life on the road. Come try my office job for a week, you big baby.

of course for "contracts" see "shed loads of money" that microsoft throw around to secure the content.

another pisser.

no final fantasy 13 demo for the PS3 outside of japan, due to the xbox version not being ported yet - more microsoft contract nonsense.

I have one, and the good games are few and far between. However, when a good game does come out, it tends to be really good, like RE4 or Zelda: TP. I also use it for Wii Fit, which for some reason keeps me exercising when every other bit of motivation fails :)

I don't know if it's considered to be "inferior" because it's basically an apples and oranges comparison. The Wii was never meant to be a next-gen powerhouse, but rather it was aimed at being affordable and reliant on Nintendo exclusives, emphasizing gameplay over graphics, etc. I don't know how well that's worked out for them because I haven't looked at the numbers lately.

Speaking of Wii, there was a MarioKart thread a few months ago where some folks were trying to race online. At the time I wasn't racing online, but now I am. I usually only do "Regional" which is just North America I believe, but if you ever see "JMZ" racing Luigi on the Mach Bike, that's me!

I have a love/hate with racing online though - most people are just dicks, and it's more about sabotage than actually racing. I guess that's part of the game, but sometimes it pisses me off way more than it should! lol Still, racing the circuits isn't challenging enough anymore, so I have to go online to have my ass handed to me...

Video games are one of those things i've gotten back into later in life, but there's really not much time for it, plus my other hobbies, work, etc. PS3 was bought for me by my girlfriend last birthday present (great present) and i'll buy a game once every couple of months or so.

asically i've been waiting for soemthing like the PS3 graphics since i was a kid and it's now catching up to my expectations of technology, the mind boggles at what a Playstation 4 or 5 would be like?
