I work on macbook os 10.5.4
live 7.0.1
sound carte m audio black box
midi keyboard microkontrol korg
jomox mbase 01

I m trying to find the vlue how I must tip in delay compensation....
I do this with the lesson, but the value I find is changing , it s between 20 and 40 ms.

what can I do?

Hi Leister,

you are probably referring to the "Driver Error Compensation", not to be mistaken with the Delay Compensation. Please note that the "Driver Error Compensation is only relevant in a direct monitoring situation.
Did you do the lesson from scratch each time you got different results (with Driver Error Compensation set to "0")?

Hi,

I noticed that my recordings weren't rhythmically in time. So I went through the driver error compensation Set again and changed the value. But the recordings were out of time again.

It seems as if the driver-error is everytime different, taking values like 29, 41 up to 105. Everytime I boot my computer and Live I get a different driver-error.

Might my Emagic-USB-Interface be causing that?

that sounds strange... have you reset the driver error compensation to "0" when doing the lesson again? are the sample sample rate setting identical?

Yes, I really ran through "tests", meaning I left the compensation on 0, shut down Live and my computer, reset everything and went through the Driver Error Lesson again to be sure, that it's not me changing anything. The driver error is really changing its value. This is very annoying because I can't be sure if my audio device is damaged or I am doing some mistake. Maybe I'll try out another audio device, but at the moment I do only have the emagic a6/2.

please note that the driver error compensation will only have an effect when you record with monitoring switched to "Off". If you indeed get a different result doing the lesson while having identical settings, this might indicate a a driver/hardware problem. If you have the chance, could you test it with another device?

Hi Jörg,

I left all options like they were when I loaded the Driver Error Compensation Set. So monitoring is off on the track I am recording onto. Of course monitoring and recording the same signal at the same time wouldn't make sense...

Now I ran through the Driver Error Lesson with another new device, the Tascam US-1641 with the newest Driver and Firmware. Here the latency I get while recording also changes everytime I reboot my entire system. In the span of one recording session the value changes when I do the test the second time, then it remains that second value, which I may enter in the compensation field. But in the next recording session (after rebooting my system) this value is different again.

So I tested this with my old emagic a6|2m and with a new Tascam US-1641, each with a Toshiba and a Samsung Notebook, each with Ableton Live 7 and with each combination I had changing values of the recording latency.

I also installed Cubase LE4 and ran the test with the Audio Clip from the Driver Error Compensation Live Set to discover that Cubase has some recording latency too, but its very small value stays the same after a system reboot. I also don't remember such issues when I was using Logic 5, which I think does automatic recording latency compensation.

I also have found quite a number of other threads in other forums dealing with that problem. But I haven't found a solution or even a explication for that.

I can't think that there aren't some people here who didn't deal with this problem.

Hi Morelles,

please contact [email protected], include screenshots of Live´s audio preferences and arrangement view after doing the Driver Error Compensation lesson, please also include your log.txt file from here:

C:/Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/Ableton/Live (your version of Live)/Preferences

Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default. Here is what you have to do to make it visible:

1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."
