To compare Casteneda to the realms of Cosmology is like comparring Bugs Bunny to Einstein.Machinesworking wrote:Agreed Hitler is a worst case scenario, and Casteneda is modern mythology, with no relation at all to science. I can truthfully and honestly say I can't begin to understand Quantum physic or mechanics, and barely know why they say physics and mechanics at different times, even after reading up on it numerous times!Tone Deft wrote: mentioning Carlos Casteneda in any thread like this is just retarded. it's beyond mentioning Hitler in any context.but I'm not about to pretend that I do, or to reference new age movies in an attempt to make it metaphysical.

wtf do you mean by 'atomic engines'?? do you know in what way nuclear reactors are used for propulsion? do you know what quantum mechanics even means??

Careful there bud, I may know a LOT more than you think I know.

Do you perhaps mean "Quantum Physics"?
I don't care if you capitalize it or not, you don't know jack shit about quantum physics. you also didn't answer my question, how are nuclear reactors used for propulsion?? it's a simple question.

Whereas I respect the research you have eluded to, this was not the findings of the most exhaustive studies done on the phenomenon to date have to offer. These studies were done by the late DR.John Mack who was both a Harvard professor as well as a Nobel prize winner.Machinesworking wrote:Honestly, there's a lot of compiled information from the various psychiatric fields that points to blocked childhood molestation as the root cause for abduction stories. It's the explanation that although the least fun, makes the most sense. Think about it, if an alien race is advanced enough to break the speed of light, they can certainly have a version of Electromagnetic Resonance Imaging that breaks down the various chemicals and organs in an organism from a spaceship without ever even touching the creature.UKRuss wrote:True, there are fools everywhere.
I suppose my stand point, on a serious level, isn't that US citizens are more or less gullible but that there must be some very interesting socio political reasons through US history as to why these stories, films etc. evolve.
For example, the situation with alien abduction stories is not the same in Nigeria, or Outer Mongolia ( as far as I know)
It's interesting is all, whether you believe or not.
There were a series of cold war movies based in some respects on the idea of alien invasion that definitely pointed to some ideology that made people into slaves etc. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the obvious example of this.

Like I say, I need to read up on it. However, not having the knowledge of all aspects of a subject doesn't necessariyl disqualify someone frmo having a viewpoint or being intelligent enough to formulate one. It just makes it easier not to re-invent the wheel. I wasn't necessarily going to make it my lifes research project. It's just interesting. It's interesting becasue in the US it is such a huge thing wrapped in all the paranoia and consiracy theories and I wonder why sometimes. Cultural sure. I fully understand what you're saying about the child abuse issues which brings is horribly into focus.Machinesworking wrote:Honestly, there's a lot of compiled information from the various psychiatric fields that points to blocked childhood molestation as the root cause for abduction stories. i don't think anyone in the thread is really saying they know it all but clearly we're all well read gentelemen and are able to formulate an interesting set of opinons and debate. I think it's interesting.
I like to think about the vastness of space etc.
Didn't someone mention eternal time earlier?
The problem with that is that we don't know that time is eternal, perhaps it is simply another property of our universe. Did time start when the universe started? (Religious groups like that idea for obvious reasons) or has it actually been going on forever? Who knows?
Tone, I don't think there is any failure anywhere here. We merely debate the same questions that quantum phsycists debate but without the mathematical know-how to create workable theories. no fail.
I read' A brief history of time' and I understand it. I know I'll never be able to exopand upon it, but all it does is pose more questions. Questions that I enjoy thinking about and debating.
It's fun.

you fail, you can't answer the simplest question.
nuclear reactors, atomic engines, all that are simply ways to boil water. just like we use coal but nukes are hotter and last longer.
quantum physics is the study of physics on the smallest level, quantized by multipliers like planck's constant, the mass of an electron etc.
I have a BSEE and have taken classes on these topics. not 'physics for poets' like you may have taken (I doubt it), real physics for real science majors. no Casteneda, no bullshit about atomic engines from aliens.

Why not?Machinesworking wrote:I'm not about to pretend that I do, or to reference new age movies in an attempt to make it metaphysical.
You don't need to be a quantum phsicist to have valid questions about your universe or to reference anything you like in respect of finding a link between social standpoints and opinions and the arts.
in fact you already did, Bodysnatchers and enslavement.
Carry on, it's good, healthy and fun.

Can we not agree that everyone has a limit to their knowledge but that it doesn't disqualify them from having a valid opinion? Evene if, through a good debate, new knowledge is given to them that might help them change their mind?
You could expand on why atomic engines cannot propel. I'm interested.
Re: OT How many of you believe in aliens?
it gets under my skin when people just throw around buzzwords to hold up a statement when they don't know what those buzzwords mean. earlier in this thread someone was amazed by "hypersonic vehicles with plasma components." sounds cool, all it means is vehicles that go faster than sound and use ionized gasses for controls. impressive buzzwords that don't mean much, unless you don't know what they mean.UKRuss wrote:Tone, I don't think there is any failure anywhere here. it stays in this thread though. if someone gets this stuff wrong they probably make killer tunes and can teach me more about Live, right?

I have NO CLUE where TD is coming from but he is definitely going a bit over the top. Cosmology and Quantum physics are regularly reported on in the publicized scientific media. It's done so that ANYONE can understand it's premises. I do understand exactly how nuclear propulsion works, but point being, I never claimed to be an expert or a nuclear physicist. Is someone "bullshitting" by stating the truth? I pointed out the fact that the United States did exactly what I stated they did in the late 60s and proposed a very LOGICAL speculation from that given stance. There is simply no call for being a dick head over next to nothing. Especially when I can't even get that individual to share his music with me after trying for several years. I know one thing, he has a well known public reputation for a big hot tempered mouth. That's about it. I'm sorry TD, but dude, YOU need to lighten up a bit. Please.UKRuss wrote:Like I say, I need to read up on it. Ooooo, not sure, now having heard your first chown. I think you've gots the skillz!
Re: OT How many of you believe in aliens?
I hoenstly believe that in a universe as vast as ours, its more insane to not believe in aliens than it is to believe in them. So if they're out there, then where are they? If you had the ability to travel the universe and do all these amazing things, would you really try explaining yourself to a species that is perpetually fighting with itself because it still operates out of the reptilian fight or flight instinct? No, I don't think you would. You'd study the planet they lived on (life-supporting planets like Earth are quite rare) and HOPEFULLY you'd step in if they were on the verge of destroying themselves.

I can't even begin to understand how I could agree with that. it's the means to which people present their opinions. DrX could totally find other ways to back up his ideas, so far he's just a bullshitter.
