OUT OF MEMORY

Post by slowdancer » Thu May 21, 2009 1:56 am

does anyone else have this problem?

after a while, ableton 8.0.2 won't let me save and complains about an "out of memory - please save and quit" or something to that effect but i can't save then quit. i can only quit, and lose my work.

i'm running XP pro, 1.8 Ghz, 4 GB ram.

thanks

send an email to [email protected] with the details. they should be able to help you troubleshoot it. Are you using massive sample libraries loaded into memory? do you have lots of stuff running in the background? Can you make the error come up the same way using the same set, or does it seem random?

Yeah, it's a major headache. Happens to me all the time. I just put 8.0.3 on my machine yesterday, haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

how does it happen? I leave Live open for days, record audio for up to a few minutes at a time, delete takes and whatnot and only have 2Gb of RAM. it'd be nice to know what's going on.

i thought i had it pinned down when i removed the "beat looker" plug i was using and it ran fine for a minute... but nope. out of memory wins.

i am running dbglue's tape stop plug, and he does clearly state they may be unstable. I'll try a set without any third party plugins so i can possibly isolate the issue. i will post my findings...

No idea, man. Never happened in V4 - V7 for me, as soon as I used 8, I get this ALL the time. 4 gigs of RAM on the laptop, 10 on the desktop. I'm on Mac, as you can see, others are on PC, that doesn't have anything to do with it. I'm now in the habit of hitting command + S after every damn change I make, knowing that one second I'm going to get that error. At least then I only lose one change.

ok...last time i said i disabled beat looker and it happened again, but i had another beat looker running on another scene. I removed all beat looker instances, and it hasn't happened in the last hour. this might be a sloppily coded third part plugin issue.

Not necessarily, the Live set it happens to me on contains no 3rd party plugs, only Live's effects.

Thanks god I'm not alone with this!

Yeah on certain projects "out of memory" shoots me down 10 times a day ... I can just feel the creativity being poured to ground...

I cannot be sure but I suspect the Rob Papens Predator ... Dunno... Or it could be a combination of plugs and that is very hard to trace ...
