anyone using M-audio axiom pro with live 7 or 8?

Post by 33tetragammon » Mon Apr 27, 2009 10:07 am

hi all,

curious about m-audio's axiom pro(especially the 49 key version) with hypercontrol and how it all works with Live 7 and/or Live 8.
might be a good replacement of my remote sl 37,IF it works.
so if you have one,it would be great if you gave some feedback about it.

thanks!

I'm wondering how Hypercontrol would work with Live also. The M-Audio video with the Axiom Pro controlling Pro Tools looks kinda similar to the way the APC40 would control Live. The only thing that I'm not crazy about the APC40 is the fact there is no keyboard. I'd rather have something that could control Live with a keyboard. So if Ableton could support Hypercontrol, that'd be really cool.

I looked in the Live control surface list in Live 8.0.3. It looks like it's the same Axiom support that has been used for the first generation. Nothing for the new Axiom Pro hypercontrol.

i found something here regarding hypercontrol with Ableton live 7.015 & 8:

http://forums.m-audio.com/showthread.php?t=8581

here's what someone from M-audio support said"

"To get HyperControl working with Pro Tools 7, Reason, Logic, and Cubase, you must install a HyperControl personality file specific for those programs. Pro Tools 8, Live 7.0.15, & Live 8 have the support built-in"

hmmmm.....i'll contact Ableton support to shine some light on this.

I use M-Audio Axiom Pro and I have just bought Live Suite 8.

There is a preset (19) and the name Ableton is displayed.... it just doesn't do anything....
You can of course manually map controls very easily.... the function keys seem to map to track and scene selection...but not quite the same thing.

I also have Logic and Reason and I had to download and install files to get Hypercontrol working with them. I am about to email both Ableton and M-Audio about this

Ps I also have Remote SL Automap and that does seem to have every parameter (i haven't tried all of them yet) mapped and works really well (in case you are wondering, i like to use it for mixing and to use Axiom for controls while playing).

thanks for the info!
really appreciated.
i emailed Ableton support about some info about hypercontrol with Live more than 3 weeks ago, haven't heard a thing yet.....

I have just been to the M-Audio Forum.

It wasn't very helpful, one post said "it works' (I am summarising a bit) another bit of support advice was read the manual, which I had done and the advice was to set up the Control Preference in Ableton to 'Axiom Classic' - My system had done that automatically as part of the set up.

However, I decided to look at the other options. The next choice was just 'Axiom Pro' so i tried that.... and I now have full Hypercontrol of Ableton on my Axiom Pro.

So I would suggest giving that a try...it worked for me.

Shame the guidance/manual couldn't be a bit helpful (or correct)

-does the display display parameternames etc?
-how do you switch to control devices, sends, etc?
-can you assign keycommands to the numerical keypad?

i know,i know,i am reeeeeeeaaaaallllllyyyyyyyyy getting excited!

all the best!

jusy got a reply from Ableton support:

"yes Live 8 does support the Axiom Pro and Hypercontrol.

To control Live via Axiom PRO and Hypercontrol, change the control surface to “Axiom Pro” in the control surface list of Live.

Infos about Hypercontrol should now be available on M-Audios website.

Let me know if this helped or if you need further infos."

Kind Regards,
Michael

might be a good replacement of my remote sl 37
I am interested in a 37 key controller - I'm wondering why you are considering replacing the Remote? It seems to me that the functionality would be very similar to that of the new Axioms, at least for my purposes.

sorry for the late reply.here goes:

basically i wanted the axiom pro 49 because it has more keys than my remote sl 37,has grabbable faders(quite stiff though),better knobs (which arent't detented like on the original axiom 49,plus they have a little more space between them than my remote),better drumpads(ask anyone, the remote's pads are just plain awful).
so to sum it all up:a better all-in-one-controller(at least for me),with better build quality.
the only strange thing is that the axiom's lcd screen is on the far left side of the controls.i guess they wanted to keep productioncosts down by keeping the same layout as the original axiom.have to get used to that.

off-topic:
regarding the remote sl mk2's:i don't think it's a smart move to lose the second lcd screen above the faders(they did it to keep the cost down).
they should release a nocturn with an lcd screen, that would be wonderful.

cheers!

Hey - thanks for the thorough reply. I only looked just now, so it's all working out.

I have a 61 key An1x I use at home, and a 25 key Oxygen for theoretical live use - but 25 keys is too small. I had thought 37 was the sweet spot, which was one reason in favour of the Remote. Your comments are helpful in thinking this through.

Cheers,

e.
