What is a good open source software that will allow me to salvage some tunes off of an old broken ipod? I love how Apple makes this so difficult.
Logic Studio, Live 7, Max 5, Monome 64, and Desktop Evolver

1. why not open the ipod in your computer and drag the songs into ITUNES.
2. then highlight all those songs and 'right click' and convert them to MP3'S.
3. then go to the folder where they were saved into....and boom....you can move those MP3's to any other IPOD you own.

I take it you've never had the joy of owning an iPod?casioaz1 wrote:1. why not open the ipod in your computer and drag the songs into ITUNES.

You can't just drag songs from the IPOD into ITUNES. Apple uses a PROPRIETARY SYSTEM to hide the SONGS. So the only way to get the SONGS off of an IPOD is to use a THIRD-PARTY PROGRAM.

AND I PLUG IN MY IPOD TO MY PC, THEN I GO INTO MY COMPUTER AND OPEN UP THE IPOD.
THEN I GO TO THE FOLDER 'IPOD CONTROL' AND DRAG ANY OR ALL SONGS INTO ITUNES. THEN I CAN CONVERT THEM TO MP3'S.
THEN I CAN TAKE THOSE MP3'S THAT WERE SAVED INTO 'MY MUSIC' ITUNES FOLDER AND PLACE THEM ON ANY IPOD, MP3 PLAYER I CHOOSE.

sharepod is GREAT IMHO.

With sharepod, my ipod now is like it just should be.
What is really nice is that you don t have to install it and it can even run from your pod.
Try it!!!

Does it have the names of MP3's and everything, or just encoded names?casioaz1 wrote:and just so I don't make an ass of myself, i just tried it again (since i've been doing this for years).

Re: OT: Ipod ripper
when you change it to MP3 format. in 'my music/itunes folder',it will show the name of the artist, then inside it will show the name of the album, and inside that...will be the name of the artist/track/song (if that's how you view your mp3 format in your folders).anamexis wrote:Does it have the names of MP3's and everything, or just encoded names?casioaz1 wrote:and just so I don't make an ass of myself, i just tried it again (since i've been doing this for years).
