nice video, it will be interesting to see how you get on with it after a day or two of practice.

Even though I will not be revisiting the world of 'dance music' I still look forward to trying to use this thing in my own way.
Well, once I can get a bit of money together to buy one that is.

It's great to see the APC40.

An interface designed to make music making even more complexed and confusing.

The zap of creativity just got acknowledged by a box with pretty lights.

I use a Verizon aircard in my laptop for Internet, and the super high quality of Vimeo's compression is too taxing on my connection. When you hit play the video stutters constantly and it's completely unwatchable. You can't even hit pause and wait for it to buffer, it will still stutter. There isn't even an option for a lower rez version of the video. Vimeo sucks liquid duck shit. Anything anyone puts on Vimeo will be ignored by a large number of viewers by default. It doesn't work on an iPhone, and it doesn't work on a computer with an non-robust connection.

I realize you're trying to drive traffic to your site, Tom, but you're also not even opening the door to a large percentage of your potential audiences.

AND I HAVE GEAR LUST AND NEEEEED TO SEE A BOX OPENED!! FFFFFUUUUUCCCCCKKKK!!!!!!!! :x  :x  :x
Follow up...

I went back because I still want to see it, and I noticed the "Turn HD Off" button in the screen. Delighted, I turned it off. Unfortunately, it made no difference with the stuttering every second or two. Horrible.

Thanks for the comments guys.

moodles - It will have an impact on how I do things, probably not massively as it seems to slot in almost perfectly already!

nuxnamon - no I don't ... I do various tid bits for them like workshops and product demos (such as this) but I am not endorsed by any company official at the moment.

kabuki - First impressions, the only thing that I could say that is negative is the location and the feeling of the navigation buttons, something I anticipated to be more user/wear tear friendly... I personally would have liked 8 of the knobs to not be endless, but I think ill get over that pretty quick.

stutter - the knob above the master is set ti "CUE LEVEL" by default... but no reason it can't be midi mapped to move through scenes. good idea! I can't measure the cross fader I don't have a ruler, it's about the length of a matchbox

glitchrock - thanks for the tip

Mcboob - sorry you are having issues. I use vimeo because youtube won't let me increase the time limit on my videos.. I also like to put the videos out as hd as possible so people can work backwards, I don't plan on changing from using their service. My suggestion is to visit the vimeo page http://www.vimeo.com/4843284 and down the bottom right there is a download link, you can get the vid on your comp and watch it locally

rolfski - they both do the same job, the acp has the nav box which is great, but the vestax is solid and sturdy with nice buttons, pots and faders, I will be showing them both at the launch equally.

Just saw one in action tonight and I have to say I'm quite surprised at how dim the LED's are in the pads. Soooooo dim. I feel like if you were playing at an outside festival or in a bright room, good luck. Very surprised.

Repost from ALDJ:

Firstly, great video.

Secondly, I'm so glad that the person lucky enough to get their hands on an APC 40 this early out of all the potential people - it was Tom, someone who has constantly given to the community time and time again.

Big up sir!

PS. Tom, would you be able to do me a favour and and take a photo of the power supply specs ie. 240V AC-DC 12V 2A regulated / unregulated etc, and a photo of the power pin used on the unit? I'm just finding myself a NZ powersupply to suit my US import when she arrives.

Cheers bruv!

It takes 12v DC at 2A - negative outside plus inside polarity.

the powersupply I am using I don't think it is the one that actually ships with the model.. but it inputs AC100-240v 50/60hz 0.55A , outputs DC12v 2A

I imagine you will just need a cheap prong adapter to plug into the power supply.

Ramblings of a mad man with a new toy.

Feel like I've already got one after watching that. If I can keep watching new Tom Cosm Aps-40 videos, I can suppress this insatiable gear lust.

Hope the tax return is going to be ok this year...........

Thanks Tom. Oh, do you get to keep it?

Great video, as ever Tom. Although, as you are responsible for me being excited about the APC again, I think technically you should pay some money towards one for me :D

Just wanted to add to similar comments that it's great that somoene who gives so much to the community gets a little payback like this advanced/demo gear.

Thanks heaps Tom, at this stage it looks like this one will do the trick:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0358203137

But before I do the ebay, I'm actually starting to think the power supply being shipped may be a universal 110-240v requiring only an adaptor which may be included in the box. Looking forward to a definitive reply from someone who lands a retail package - so anyone who has a retail APC40 from somewhere else in the world, please feel free to chip in.

It's quite obvious that this device 100% relies on external power, so these are things anyone importing these devices need to take into consideration.

Again thanks Tom! :D Much appreciated.
