I love Ableton for it's processing capabilities, and use it a lot for sound design work.
However, it lacks functionality like ProTools/Vegas/Reaper have to make it a truly useful application for post production/sound design.
Currently, I have to use Reaper for layering and generic edits because it's so much faster and more customasible. Every now and then I do a bit of processing in Ableton, but I would love it if Ableton just got a lot of the functionality that Reaper has.
Here's a few things that are lacking:
- customisable shortcuts
- advanced snapping (snap clips without a grid - i.e., snap a clip to another clip on a different track)
- shortcuts for selecting next/previous clip
- automatically stop playback based on time selection
- flexible zoom in/out functionality
There's a lot of other things, but this would be a good start.
More post production functionality

Offset 1st bar to timecode.
This would allow composing to terrestrial UK TV spec, which requires 12 frames of mute picture at the head (and tail).
