OT: AT&T Data Plans and the iPhone
I'm considering making the switch, but wondering how much I'm going to be shelling out each month. My question is - what does $69.99 per month really come out to each month for an individual plan?
For instance, my current plan at verizon is like $39.99/month advertised. In reality, with taxes and whatever other mysterious magical shit they add onto it - it's more like $67-69ish. Does AT&T tack on similar bullshit or does it stay closer to $69.99 because it's an unlimited data plan?

Re: OT: AT&T Data Plans and the iPhone
I have the 70/month plan and added 200 text mssgs for an extra 5 dollars.
$75/month equates to about $83/month here in Richmond, VA
Your taxes may vary depending on city/state though.

Same here. $83 in NYC. Worth every penny.
Re: OT: AT&T Data Plans and the iPhone
Hmm... I looked at it further and I think part of it is a misconception on my part. My plan started out at $39.99 but I added $15/mo. for 1500 text messages and $4/mo. for insurance. So it's already more like $60 - plus about $10 in taxes and surcharges (not nearly as bad as I thought).
Interesting...
So when you start an iPhone plan with AT&T do they charge you extra for insurance on the phone? That'd be the only thing I'd want to add.

Unless I'm wrong there is no insurance for the iPhone - just Applecare. Not really the same thing.
Re: OT: AT&T Data Plans and the iPhone
There is no insurance available for the iPhone, just be careful with it. Applecare will cover a lot of things, but not misuse or abuse.

Re: OT: AT&T Data Plans and the iPhone
don't go over on your minutes, you will get raped at 40-45 cents per minute!
however, they will pro-rate you if you upgrade, as i found out when i got hit with a 350 dollar bill last month.
these are expensive, no two ways about it. but replacing gps, blackberry, phone and ipod with one unit is
priceless. thank god i can write it off....

Re: OT: AT&T Data Plans and the iPhone
I never go over on minutes...
The iPhone is probably too much phone for me, to be honest. When you're talking phone/activation/accessories + 1st month of service - it starts to add up. Plus I'd probably spend a decent chunk of dough on apps, I'm sure.
Still not sure it's right for me - but I know more about what to expect with pricing thanks to you guys.
I'll hold off on doing anything til after they announce the new version...
