just got my vcm600! super dooper excited like a dog in heat

Post by sweetjesus » Fri May 29, 2009 2:35 am

after my long relationship with a remote SL and a brief love affair with a Korg Zero 8, I just got my new Vestax VCM-600 controller.

Cant wait to jam with it. it will look a little less dodgy than my remote SL with coloured stickers on the piano keys...

Only thing I can think of is I really wish they had integrated an audio interface into the unit... but this is miles ahead as far as user interface goes for laptop dj'ing so i'll be pretty content.

I just spent 1/2 hour on one... it's great if you have small sets (6 chan or less). I'd rather have one of those than the APC I think if I was doing DJ'ing.

I really like how they are so solid and black.

okay im totally utterly floored by how great these controllers are.. the way they use automapping is phenomenal and ive officially found the controller of my dreams ! happy.. yay!

im still in shock over how i opened my existing live set and the eq's and filters mapped without me having to touch anything.. this thing just stated working.. as a standalone midi controller 9/10

if anyone has had problems with these, id appreciate knowing now before i take it out to gigs..

Think it was just some bad soldering or maybe transit damage but faders 3 and 4 were intering with each other.
Fader 3 couldnt make his mind up what cc he was sending out and so sometime inadvertantly started behaving as if he was fader 4.
If you wiggled the sliders you could stop this behaviour which makes me think it was connection. Very minor problem but couldnt live with that

I hear what you are saying, its a lovely thing indeed. I have always had cheapy plasticy m-audio controllers so its great to have a nice tactile interface. The lighting up of the buttons is a joy

I still havent got it working with my PC but I think I have some weird driver conflict. It works on both my laptops fine. Strange that Vestax dont supply their own driver as my MS USB audio driver says it has installed but it never shows up in live.
Not a huge problem as I only use with laptop but didnt get any replies from support after sending 6 or 7 mails which concerned me a little

They could have gone for some better lights on the side imo, those ones arent the best but small complaint really!
I'd like to write my own midi remote script - have u ever done this?
The automap is just genius tho - out of box and straight in to the action

someones going to have a fun weekend!

You guys always have the best sleep over parties down there. You're like the Ableton rat pack.

It's going to take me a while to get used to hearing people say they are happy with their controllers. That kind of language is really alien around here.

Maybe we should set up some sort of counseling service?

has anyone figured out why they didn't make this an 8-channel controller? seems like that would've been a no-brainer to me.

Yeah, I don't really get it either. I would have snapped it up right away.

You can fake 8 by using the two return channel faders, thats what a few guys I know have done, but the return strips are missing knobs etc
