Yeah you could get mobbed with posts and be forced to choose a new username.

We all know how worried you are about post counts and all. Starting from 0 again would really not fucking matter... I mean, totally suck.

Other than that, i would be more than happy to show that i easily can "walk it and talk it".
so let's get back on the topic at hand. :D we're just having a go with you, let's drop it.

I would master for my monitors first and foremost (FWIW Adam A7.)
then I would check the mix on my home theater and my car.
I'd mix to mono to check for phase issues in the bass.

cell phones and laptops, I wouldn't even bother.

honestly, do you master for cell phones, laptops and TV speakers? really the term TV speaker doesn't mean what it used to.

he's mastering for translation. he wants it to sound really good on all speakers. which is a noble concept, one i wouldn't achieve with rbass or maxxbass. (why the fuck does waves have two plugs that do the same thing?)

Dude get help, give help, its all good really. You're opinions are valid. Its not like you were pulling shit out of your ass and throwing it at the OP. Just remember that everyone else has opinions too and even if they erk you a little they shouldn't piss you off to the point of yelling in text and flexing. I mean I don't know who you really are but in my eyes a comment about humbling us all is Bullshit. I don't know half the DJs that most of the guys on here know and most of them don't know half the MCs that I know so even if one person here reveres you there are probably at least 3 more that don't. I mean I can't even think of anybody that would come close to pleasing the entire patronage of this board - Cut Chemist? But what about all the old rockers do you think they'd care?

I dunno dude. I probably have pissed off a person or two. I get in my moods like today. I met Tone Deft by having a small sub topic flame war with him. Now I respect his opinion more than most on this board. Sometimes we just need to balance out. too much left needs some right, too much cloud needs some ground, too much dark needs some light.

I should be taking my own advice...

Peace

Rbass is just the slimmed down version of Maxbass. If you want a little bit more control then you'd use maxbass. When I used to use the waves plugins a lot more I'd usually just go for Rbass and it's ultra simple controls.
Low frequency exciters can work wonders on all sorts of material if used correctly. Ecspecialy kick drums and such.
Glad to see this topic back on track.

edit: Also I WILL say that I have, in the past, attempted to do what the original poster was asking (making a subby bassline audible on mini speakers) by using maxbass or Rbass and the results were next to none. Only the slightest bit of tone was actually able to be produced. However, I also think that the plugin added extra weight to the original bass while being played back on bigger systems so I would not say that the process was pointless.
My advice just experiment. Although any waves bundle is stupidly expensive so I can't really recommend experimenting on those:)

put Live on a laptop.
open the preferences, get the tone generator running.
run it down under 100Hz, it sounds like crap, maybe your case even starts to rattle.

getting good bass from a laptop is like getting metal out of Pat Boone, don't bother.

laptops are made for traveling businessmen, not audiophiles. hence my first post about just cutting them out.

I think we need a master-off. post a song that can't sound good then a Waves owner can make it sound good on a laptop. ??

I don't know. I may be wrong but I don't think that the original poster was asking about getting good bass on laptop speakers but rather just trying to be able to hear his bassline at all and that's where an LF-Exciter can come into play (but only kind of. I can't stress this enough. The results are so subtle that it probably wont be worth the bother with for most people).

a lf exciter does jsut that, excites the low frequencies. you need to excite the high frequencies. thats the trick. gotta make it pop yo.

if all your trying to do is HEAR low bass on lap top speakers that is like

trying to pick up infrared light with a standard camera with no filters.

putting distortion on it or boosting it is just going to ruin everything.

if your just making music for your friends and people you know fuck the low bass, kids get too elitist with sub frequencies , any bass is still going to make an impact on subs
