Workflow: Anyone start in Arrange, then to Session?

I'm kinda hoping the APC will help with this, the ability to remove myself from mouse clicking and add/remove parts as it feels right. I think this is where the DJs have a HUGE advantage, they've got tons of practice bringing in different elements and combining them. they also start out playing with other peoples' structures which I imagine is a great way to start to get the feel, then they get better with more elaborate structures.

DJ'ing isn't about structure though, just riding what works at that point in time. Working with other people is a great way to learn structure, an epic 2 minute intro very quickly becomes 4 bars when you have to play it to others

Also for drums, I like to be able to jam freely (along with a bass loop or something), and then go back and isolate/touch up any cool parts, and make them into their own loops. Session isn't good for this since you have to pre-define your clip length. So again, how can I do this in Arrange and then turn it into a clip for Session?

Edit the recording in ARRANGE (cursor and CTRL+E / CMD+E)
Drag that "clip" into the FILE BROWSER on the left
You can use that clip in SESSION on any project your in (current or future)

This is close to what you're already doing except you're not going through the RENDER step.

I recommend creating a separate folder (to make them easy to find).

No you dont, you can just hit record on an empy clip slot and record for as long as you like.

It does if you double click in an empty slot to create a blank clip before recording, but if you just hit the record button in an empty slot the clip will be whatever length you decide.

I do everything in arrange.

I have a couple fo tracks that i started messing around with in session a few years ago and basically never finished.

I like the fact that Arrange forces you to work on the structure as you go along.. .

Saying that I am gonna try to put something together in session tomorrow. i have just the track as well. it's something that i have built up in cycle mode so would be perfect for chopping into loops. . .
