Does a Mac spend less time thinking/waiting?

Hey,

Today my PC is in slow mood, everything takes a huge amount of time. Strange thing is that my PC mood changes from day to day, and is generally slower in the morning.

Does a Mac spend less time fucking around?

Or is it all about a minimal setup and powerful computer?

Too many variables involved to accurately make such a comparison. Both platforms can be swift or slow depending on various factors.

Maybe look into optimizing your setup for music, or other basic computer maintenance tips & tricks (?)

what OS are you using? Vista never seems responsive, XP is pretty much the snappiest OS around with some tweaking. What processor and how much RAM do you have?

If your computer is gunked up, and/or has spyware/malware on it from visiting the dark side of the web, these programs are my starting toolbox.

- Spybot Search and destroy (dont install tea timer, otherwise excellent spyware app)
- Adaware free, conflicts a little with spybot, but both of them together should pick most bad stuff up.
- CC Cleaner - great for removing temp files etc
- REvo uninstaller - if youve got a lot of unused apps, use this bad boy to remove them instead of the add/remove programs control panel.It will do a deep clean and remove any unused temp files or dependent files.
- Regcleaner - will give your registry the once over, remember to back up your registry when prompted.

For years, i ran a music partition and a general partition with different installs of XP. Now i do it all on the one as the quad cores are so powerful that the performance difference became negligible. as long as you keep it clean it should tick over well for ages.

I take no responsibility if your computer blows up after running these apps!

impossible to say without telling what specs your pc has, when was the last time your did a clean windows install and if you know how to do basic system maintenance.

The other day I had to install Live for a friend on a brand new Vista laptop.
Holy shit, the horror...

First off, the thing never went online before it got to me. So upon bringing it online Mcafee froze the laptop until it downloaded every fix for every virus. No obvious off switches for that.

Secondly, the Live installer. Upon clicking it, I literally had to watch the hourglass for 5 minutes until something happened. I tried installing some drivers while it was loading, but apparently vista has trouble with one task. Let alone two..

In the end, Live is running choppy and the audio card drivers wont work.
And don't get me started on the build quality of 750€ laptops.

Call me a mac fanboy, but at least I don't have to take a windows refresher course to install an application.

Most "brand new Vista laptops" are over-loaded with crappy applications. /format c: right after buying the computer is the best thing to do, start with a clean OS without any of the manufacturer's shitty software. Even $750 laptops will perform well if you follow this basic rule.

Yeah. Try telling that pc illiterate people. I think the deciding factor for this guy was DDR 3 Ram, even though he probably couldn't tell me what RAM does.
I tried selling him my mac. But he just wouldn't listen.
Basically. He thought he was getting the best deal by buying a brand new laptop.
To actually enjoy it. He'll have resent it enough to want to reinstall windows.

Mcaffees is possibly the worst thing you can put on a computer, secondly anything Nortons, thirdly Vista! People are amazed how well even Vista runs with a little tweaking, and removing Mcaffees. It does a decent job of keeping the pc virus free, but it does a better job of stopping any other program running properly!

Mac OSX prioritizes the user interface. Windoze doesn't. This is one factor that makes Macs feel more responsive.

That's what I've always thought too. Does having a multi-core setup on windows help this situation out?
