I lost Ableton - Frauded on ebay :(

Post by lapieuvre » Thu Jun 04, 2009 7:45 pm

Here is my story of fraud I was victim of:

I bought a brand new Live 7 suite from an ebay member. Once the trasaction completed, he gave me the serials, which I quickly authorized. I was a happy Live 8 user for 2 months (I was entitled to the free suite 8 upgrade). Now Ableton contacted me to remove my authorizations because the ebay member that sold me the software used a stolen credit card to buy Live 7...

AAAARRRGGHHHH!!!

Just so you know. Be careful when buying on ebay...

Man, that is completely raw. It would seem that legally the guy who sold you the product should be liable, not you. You already paid from a good legitimate source of money for the Live 7 box. If you ask me, that should have been handled differently unless you got your money back in full.

Are you stating that Ableton took away the box's authorization, or just the free upgrade to Live 8?

Something just doesn't make sense here.

edit: I apologize. I thought it stated that you purchased a brand new box. When you buy something sight unseen online, you are take a HUGE chance. When you buy serial numbers from someone other than the source of their origination, well that's not too smart.

Ableton didn't make any money on it so they want their key back.

You should be able to reclaim your lost money. My wife has a successful EBAY store and EBAY is currently biased towards the buyer because of previous scams and such. Contact them and send the message from Ableton. All transactions are processed through Paypal which EBAY conveniently owns, so they will freeze the sellers assets. If seller has bailed, they will still most likely refund you. Don't fret yet, go through the process, it should work.

I saw the error of me ways..see above edit. The buyer here should still be easily able to recoup his money however. I believe you have insurance with almost any card type that covers this sort of thing without having to purchase anything additional.

I still didn't get any news from Paypal. They are the only ones that didn't answer me. As for the seller, his rating was 100%, that is why I bought from him. All the feedbacks were great. As soon as I got the serial from him I authorized Live and everything worked well. There is always a risk in buying from ebay, but with a 100% rating I felt protected...

I got scammed for a low end joe meek channel strip. someone had hijacked the seller's profile. paypal gave me my money back in full. if i remember it took a couple of weeks to go through the process, but all's well that ends well. i betcha with your note from the Abes you'll be able to get your money back, if it wasn't higher than the amount they cover for that transaction.
good luck!!

The fact that its Paypal will make it a much easier process than your standard credit card. That's a big part of what they're around for. I've had friends who got ganked and were able to get it str8 with Paypal...

Don't give up. I think you stand a good chance of getting your loot back.
