writing basslines

im into producing house music but always get stuck on the bassline anything i come up with always sounds naff and robotic im a relative beginner how many notes should be in a typical bassline and what note lengths should be used any tips would be greatly appreciated

hey man,

step away from your computer. sing a bassline. record the audio for reference. Load a VST and figure out the notes. PLay from yer heart

House Music basslines are not defined by the number of notes. It's all about the funk and the feel bro!

Feel your pain :mrgreen:

It's not how many notes but whether the notes convey the "beef".

I would also say that you need to separate the notes of the bass-line, not too much legato.
Another point to take into consideration is using the "pitch-wheel" sparingly to give a human (ish) feel to it.

There are loadsa things you might want to do BUT you need to be more specific. :wink:

wow.. never thought about that way.. i guess i can sing into melodyne, and it can tell me what notes I am singing and export midi into ableton.. genius..
