Drum Rack. Making Pads cut each other off.

Post by JaCk HoRNer » Sat Jun 06, 2009 4:51 am

Does anyone know how to make the pads in Drum Rack cut each other off?

In my MPC i can set it so each pad cuts off when another pad is hit.

It works great when chopping up a sample. you can adjust your start points, but not have to worry about the end points. then you can experiment with playing the chops back in a different order.

i'm sure it can be done in Ableton, just haven't figured it out yet.

P.S. If anyone knows how to this in Sampler, that would be cool too.

Thanks!

Someone just asked this like literally in the past week, but I will answer because I am here and have just gotten this stuff figured out as I've started building my own kits. You have to expand out your drum rack and set the samples you want to have cut each other off into the same choke group. There are three columns of pulldowns - note, play and choke. The first two are note names, the third, right-hand one is an integer value. That is the one you change. You might have to dick around with it a little, because if the note column is set to "all notes," the play and choke columns gray out.

that's it!

Choke Group. Works like a charm.

Thanks!

I was looking for choke group in Sampler, but couldn't find it. Any ideas on how to do this in Sampler too?

in sampler, set the polyphony to 1 voice.

not quite the same, but the same result. if you need only certain sets of sounds to cancel each other (but not cancel sounds in other groups) then make an instrument rack of samplers, with cancelling groups in each sampler
