Any comments about the APC 40. Is it worth the price of admission. What are the best/worst things about
it. Does it cut the mustard. What better place to ask.
Thank,

Don't you want to know if it cuts the hot sauce? In my opinion that would be the more important question.
Re: Comments about the Akai APC 40
kinda joking Gil.
I really like the build quality and feel of the ALL the controls. the channel faders are nice and stiff, the x-fader is loose and replaceable.
there's a thread where some of us are discussing issues in getting Live to see it correctly. once I found the right power up sequence, it's been fine. using it alongsie a BCR and novation SL.
it's definitely a session view controller and not an instrument. although anything can be tweaked, there's a video of someone using it to tweak drums. this video also shows how well done the buttons are.
there's a bank of knobs for pan/sendA/sendB and sendC. the consensus there and in another thread are that nobody needs Pan control on this thing.
there's another thread on the price difference between the US and Europe, the US gets a HUGE price break.
there's a thread showing how many famous people are already using it, definitely worth a read.
there's also talk of how max4Live will blow this thing up, there's a video of max4Live transforming the APC into a step sequencer.
there are also threads comparing the APC to Maschine, the consensus is this is like comparing apples to airships.
IMO it won't be anyone's only controller, this with a BCR or some other general purpose controller will go great. the APC is for overall general control and it does that well.
there's also a thread about a smaller version that people would like. it doesn't look like any version of this could be USB powered, there are too many LEDs.
maybe you've seen some of these threads?
hth. I like mine but if you're looking for an instrument or some kind of music maker, this isn't ideal for that. if you want to be able to use Live without touching the mouse, this does that very well.
anyway, lots of reading to catch up on.

Re: Comments about the Akai APC 40
just received the apc and its really comfortable, its a better flow with ableton now. Well, using it as a sequencer will work sometimes, but you should check oldschooltracker renoise as it is now supporting rewire and it works great as slave or master.
I´m still on Ableton 7 and I´m not sure how to sequence the stuff I´m doing with the apc, I hate the way Live switches to the arrange view if I record something, I want to be always at session view and record in the arrange in the background.
Is this behaviour changed in Live 8?
