isolating bass lines

Post by LesPasta » Sun Jun 07, 2009 2:07 pm

What are some techniques for isolating the bass elements from a loop...

I'm thinking about something similar to using the utility effect to remove the bass from a loop.. but the opposite...

anyone ?

i dunno about doing it in ableton or reason. reason isnt exactly known for working with audio. audacity can do it and thats free. alot of the videos on the process just do it for vocals you may want to look up "removing vocals" and adding the extra step of removing the high bands of eq before doing what they say in the videos

well Reason isn't a DAW... but in my work with Reason I exclusively import audio and use the processing devices... so that is working with audio right ?

All in Reason:

Here's a snippet of Kevin Gilbert's "All Fall Down", unprocessed:

Here's a snippet of the same sound file processed with the Scream Vocal Eliminator:

You can get that Reason file/Combinator patch here:

Here's a snippet of the same sound file processed with the Thor Vocal Eliminator:

haha links dont work...

but yea just eq before the eliminator and you should get decent results because the bass is always dead center
