Yeah, sorry your right. 5.2 was optimized for intel, but it was not until 6 that dual core was supported.....jah4life wrote:aisling wrote:If finances are the issue, why not upgrade the computer to a macbook (intel) and use 5.2 until you ready to upgrade to 8?
Well, I have some friends who tried to run 5.2 on their intel macs and it acted really strange and ran slowly, but that was quite a while ago and we never tried it since. I figured that 5.2 was not optimized for intel macs' multi-core processors and runs slowly as a result of only utilizing one of the processor cores. Am I wrong on this?
If I could afford a new mac, I would probably get it, but that's at least a $500-1000 difference between the price of an new version of live or a new computer.
I have not tried the demo of 8 yet, but from what I'm hearing, it will probably be a humbling experience.
Anyone got a copy of 6 or 7 they would be willing to sell?
A cheap option is a mac mini with a monitor, still quite portable, but not a laptop for sure. I actually replaced a g4 tower with one and am blown away how much more powerful it is. I actually find my self using my mac mini more than my mac book pro...just out of convenience since it is already set up.
