Question about Latency

Post by dubstyle5000 » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:40 pm

Sorry if this gets asked all the time. I looked and didn't find anything specific. I just transferred all my stuff to a laptop and when recording audio I get a crackling noise on playback. I'm assuming this is a latency issue. The catch is that when I go through the latency tutorial, I get to the part where it instructs me to adjust the input buffer amount until the test tone is clear. My input buffer is on 256 samples and can't be altered. What's happening here?

Thanks for reading.

You have to change that from your soundcard/mixer ASIO control panel. Live is just telling you what its set at.

Ah, that makes sense. I don't remember having to do that before. Does that sound like a latency problem? I don't record a lot of external audio.

Mine is set to 192. Sometimes when it makes crunchy gargling ugliness when I first boot up and start my app (either Cubase or Live) I just switch the buffer to 128... wait for it to set and then change it back. Its a bit annoying but takes less than a minute, fixes it everytime and I hardly ever have to do it - 3 or 4 times a month tops.

It will change your latency. The lower the better but there are trade offs. I'm sure someone on the forum could explain it better than I...
