WWDC - Badass notebooks today...
Re: WWDC - Badass notebooks today...
the cheap older version isn't a bad idea. I just bought a camera, all I need is a phone replacement and something to play my latest favorite albums.
my APC worked on the first night, how's yours?

Well I just did my impulsive purchase of the week/month.
Reserved the 16gig 3G S. I won't be camping outside an apple store, though. I will wait for it to arrive from the comfort of my own home. Until then, I'll be content with my old phone.

Oh, I see. I just bought a Unibody 15" Pro a few weeks ago, and I didn't even know that they already came out with a new model! I'm glad that I bought it then!
Re: WWDC - Badass notebooks today...
man, I am so fed up with working for a living. good weekends make for lousy Mondays.
damn, didn't know you got one already, I was hoping to rub your nose in it.
the power up sequence work around is a bit retarded. did they not even try it with Windows and other bits of gear?

I'm getting tired of Apple fucking with their customers, handicapping certain computers or software to make you buy another of their products under the guise "but we reduced the price!". Next major release they'll remove the space bar to see how the public reacts and then 6 months later bring back the space bar but remove the shift keys.
I'm happy I bought my MBP 3 months ago.

Actually, not such a bad idea... I might be looking at getting a previous-gen 15" just for the ExpressCard slot... don't think there's much of a difference between that one and the new one... except for the removal of EC, and the addition of the SD slot (meh). They'll probably sell for pretty cheap too. Did anyone say "clearance"?GrooveNinja wrote:Oh, I see. I usually agree with having separate components for things (APC w/a sound card = dumb, DVD player built into TC = dumb...) this is one case I disagree. strange.beats me wrote:Unless you are planning to have your phone double as your ipod (which will drain the shit out of your battery) then there's no real reason (currently) to get anything more than the 8 gig model for $99. makes the current ones look stoopid.
I'm still a believer that the phone should be the phone and a separate ipod for your media player. I think it's asking too much of one device to be all things...plus a 32 gig drive is way too small IMO.
I see your point more clearly now, $99 or an iPhone is stupid cheap. what part of the iPhone spec shows which apps work on which phone? does the $99 phone run all/most/some apps?

Looks like the new iphone has a better camera than the POS on the current one which doesn't even have zoom, and also it records video. But have they smartened up and put a damn flash on the thing I wonder?

Well, I saw your post earlier with the other differences other than just the price which I didn't realize until I hit up the Apple Store site. It does seem like the added functions would be worth the extra $100. I was working on the assumption that the price was just based on a bigger drive size. Apple is well known for raping the consumer for more RAM or a larger drive. You don't want to get one and then find out later there is something you can't do/get because of the low end model.Tone Deft wrote:I usually agree with having separate components for things (APC w/a sound card = dumb, DVD player built into TC = dumb...) this is one case I disagree. strange.beats me wrote:Unless you are planning to have your phone double as your ipod (which will drain the shit out of your battery) then there's no real reason (currently) to get anything more than the 8 gig model for $99. And I guess the other thing is with drive size, just like with computers, developers are going to start making apps that take up an obnoxious amount of space, just hasn't really happened yet.
Looking at my stats on my phone right now. I have an 8 gig drive and on it I have 85 apps (christ that's retarded), 24 short videos, 2 full length movies, and about 2 hundred songs, and I still have 3 gigs of free space.
As far as which apps work, everything that is available currently in the app store works on my phone. I think this new release is when you are going to start seeing apps that won't work.

More questionable decisions in an ever growing list of questionable decisions by Apple. The "Pro" in their laptop line is steadily loosing accuracy . Most of their recent decisons are so obviously consumer-driven.
Phooey
Glad I got the last generation before the unibody models, it has most of the features I really need & a nice matte screen.
Re: WWDC - Badass notebooks today...
I for see many pissed customers when battery problems come around. instead of a simple battery swap you got to take the whole damn thing apart.
still hate the black keys and the black ring around the screen

New MBP looks great, but my mid 07 Whitebook is still partying hard.
Maybe I'll start saving my pocket change. By the time I have $2k in quarters, I'll have a reason to upgrade.
