Hi, I'm on a G4 with 1.25GB - will be getting a new computer in about a year - and still working with Ableton 7, planning to upgrade in a few months...
Lately I've been tending to re-record my software tracks back into the program to cut down on CPU, with pretty much every track I use. However, this gets a little disorganized as for every software track there is an audio track for it. I'm interested in layering as many sounds as possible on top of one another while learning the program, and am curious as to what other ratio people have as far as actual software playing live on their tracks versus software they have recorded back into audio tracks. Obviously doing so cuts down on CPU significantly, but it can be a little time consuming and tedious should you decide to tweak the original sound, etc. Also, aside from freezing tracks, I'm always curious to hear other CPU-saving methods. When I buy a more recent Mac, can I look forward to being able to keep software tracks playing live rather than recording them? Any advice or feedback appreciated, thanks.
