Right, this is a little complicated to explain, and probably not at all complicated to fix, but I'm stumped!
I recently got a new machine (MacBook Pro 17", 2.66GHz, 4 gig ram, OSX 10.5.7), and re-installed Live 6. All went smoothly enough, until I noticed that some samples, presets etc from my external drive were not where they were supposed to be. Specifically, oodles of kick drum samples were missing from my hot swap folder. As I'm not technically what you might call gifted when it comes to computers, I obviously messed something up in trying to rectify this. I altered the library path in Preferences so that the folder containing all my samples (ie, those that were not originally included in Live) showed up in the hot swap menu.
The path would then have looked something like: Users/documents/samples etc. Alas, I failed to note the original, and presumably, correct path.
Consequently, ALL my Live Devices have disappeared. The folder containing all the instruments, audio and Midi effects is still there, but with only the original headings. Each folder is empty.
I've tried deleting all traces from my hard disk, and re-installing, but no joy. The computer seems to have saved the altered file path. I've searched the HD, but again, only the folder titles show up, with empty folders attached.
Please help a fool who just wants to make music!!
All my Live Devices have disappeared...
Re: All my Live Devices have disappeared...
Hi Nicky_Bass,
please try, if setting the Library path back to the default setting fixes the problem:
user/library/application support/ableton/library
If this does not solve the problem, please create a new empty folder (your new library folder), select this with the "Library Path" setting.
Download and install all necessary Live 6 Packs from here: http://www.ableton.com/livepacks , install by double clicking.
You´ll need to install any EIC packs from the DVDs again.
Best,
Jörg

Re: All my Live Devices have disappeared...
Hi Jorg,
Thanks for your reply.
But... I've tried both of the options above, but still nothing. In the latest version, my library path now reads:
user/library/application support/ableton/Live6.0.11/library, but when I choose the Manage Library option in the File Management side panel,
it tells me that the Library contains 0.00MB of data.
I tried deleting an re-installing once more, and the process took a mere 30 seconds, with only something in the region of 300MB being copied to my HD.
So it seems that all of the presets, samples etc (which I guess must be many GB) are not even making it off the DVD??
I'm very confused, as when I installed on my old machine, there was no problem whatsoever, and I really can't see why its any different now!
Anything to do with 10.5 perhaps? I am totally stumped here...

Hi Nicky,
what exactly happens after you double click on a Live 6 Livepack (eg. the "Basics" pack) that you have downloaded from here:
www.ableton.com/livepacks?
Best,
Jörg

Re: All my Live Devices have disappeared...
Aha...! I didn't realise I had to actually install individual packs like that.
Everything came straight from the disk before. I went straight to the overall update.
Many thanks, all seems to be back in order now.
Cheers,
Nick.
