looper Undo/Redo bug?
looper Undo/Redo bug?
Hi, I've been coming across some weird behavior with Looper and can duplicate it with these steps:
On a new session (Ableton Live 8.0.3 and MPD 24)
Load up looper and map one of the transport buttons to the record/play/overdub button
Via midi, trigger it to start, record something then trigger it to playback
Stop the session
Click "Clear"
Via midi, trigger it to start, record something then trigger it to playback
About a third into playing back what was just recorded, the "Undo" button suddenly triggers and goes to "Redo" and the audio I first recorded plays
I'd like to note that this "Undo"-->"Redo" switch doesn't happen when using the mouse
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, unfortunately...
I've just tried the looper for the first time with a FCB 1010 midi foot controller
on a ableton live 8 demo version
Anyone else ?

I've also seen this
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 74&start=0 but without solution
I've got an other problem
Looper keep in old samples and play it instead of the new ones, even if I press "clear"
Is it normal ?
Thanks a lot

so do i.
looper doesn't work. it has never worked for me, xp, vista, win7 32 and 64 or osx, so it's definitively a live problem as nothing else.
Re: looper Undo/Redo bug?
I get sad when I see this stuff . . . I am happily using 6 Loopers and a ton of other stuff on an old computer, and it's all working very well for me. Maybe a different version of 8 might fix it for you? Check my sig (freakness) for a bunch of live shows where it functioned as intended (proof that it is possible at least). I wish I could help.

i guess it works if you only record one pass per looper but i'm trying to build a set where i have two resamplers that i can use at any given time.
it works, except th at in the middle of a pass at random times the loopers plays back a random selection of the previous buffers. not fun when you're dropping to something completely different, do some fsu and whatnots then suddenly midbeat it jumps back soemthing else. kind of destroys the whole idea then.
worthless is what it is.
was hoping that it was fixed now considering how long they had to fix it. apparently they aren't testing things properly over at the live headquarters.
i wonder if they even know their own software properly, as most powerusers of live (that i know of anyways) has alot of problems and the general concensus seems to be that they can't test it over at the ableton hq because of <insert stupid excuse here>.
i guess looper works if you drop it into a track, hit record and play it back, once.
do so a couple of times and looper suddenly wants to access cleared buffers.
that's right. buffers that are cleared, not undo/redo. cleared buffers, buffers that are supposed to not exist any more.
good one.
the manual clearly states:
however it doesn't work no matter what mode i am in, and no matter what loop i've recorded. The Clear button erases Looper’s buffer. If you press Clear in Overdub mode while the
transport is running, the contents of the buffer are cleared but the tempo and length are
maintained. Pressing Clear in any other mode resets the tempo and length.
in short, the clear button seemingly cleares the buffer while keeping it in the momery then, randomly plays it back.
it seems (i will have to do more testing on this) that if i have a previous recorded loop of, say, 8 bars, clear it, then record one that is longer then the previously cleared one (8+ bars then), it plays back the recorded audio for 8 bars, then jumps back to the previously cleared buffer and plays that back for the following lenght.
the buffer that doesn't exist.
fun stuff.
can i get my money back now?
i've waited and waited and waited for looper to be fixed, as both looper and share was two of the most prominent features for me and the biggest incentive for me to buy suite 8 (that + operator, then), and none of them works still after all this time.

Re: looper Undo/Redo bug?
It seems clear that there are lots of bugs in the ableton looper.
I've bought an beringher FCB 1010 specially to use it
but it is not safe
, how could I use it on live performance ?
remind that

Re: looper Undo/Redo bug?
Thanks for sharing your problems, that made my day as I thought that the bug was in my SoftStep controller that I just bought. Now it seems like it's Live that is causing this weird problem.
I have exactly the same thing happening, with the Undo button automatically getting triggered a second or two after I've pressed the Record button the second time (to get the recorded loop starting to play). Which makes the loop go back to whatever I recorded before my last recording.
And the bizarre thing is that this happens only when I trigger the Record button through midi, with my SoftStep controller. When I use the mouse there's no bug. Or when I use my old controller, that works through Key control instead of Midi control.
ABLETON DEVELOPERS PLEASE FIX THIS! PRETTY PLEASE?
Apart from this, thanks for a fine piece of software

So you are all using MIDI Notes to control these buttons instead of Control Changes?
