Audio Drop outs with 1 track - Desperate!

My system is a Core2Quad, 3gig Ram, yamaha i88x interface and I have been running Sonar 8 without problems for about a year. I just installed Live 8 and I am getting frequent and debilitating audio drop outs with just 1 track of an 808 going. I've turned on background services and increased buffer sizes and latency which has given a noticable but far from acceptable improvement. So two questions...

1) is there a conflict between the mlan driver and Live 8?
2) Is there some option I have neglected to set properly?

I know im sooo late. Did you solve that problem? Perhaps is was your system drive. Do you record to a separate drive?
