Plus, I think his studio album is excellent. I'm just questioning his Live live thing.

So he needs a 30" cinema display for his laptop. That way he doesn't have to hunch over his laptop. It could "feel" more like he was spinning vinyl.

I can kind of argee and sympathise with the overextending himself thing..I've been using Final Scratch for 18Months and whilst it's an amazing idea and has greatly expanded my record collection whilst stopping my back from hurting...it has also GREATLY EXPANDED MY RECORD COLLECTION! 80 tunes in a record bag or 600+ in a laptop...you try and remember them all..plus...with records you get the mental association with the colour/look of a sleeve or record label....with Mp3's and wav's you don't. I guessing its the same problem...so many possibilities it can be difficult to know where to direct yourself, let alone remembering which combination of tunes from 600+ might go next into the mix! Perhaps (hopefully) he's style will settle down once he gets used to the mental task of sorting tunes and idea's before implementing them!

the club crowd don't give a shit, they just want to hear sasha's goodtime spacious Whitney remixes. Not his "Who's line is it anyway" on the spot compositions.

Unless he hoists a sign saying "I am now selecting fresh drumloops on the fly from my hard disk and warping a bootsie bass line" then nobody cares ....

If they do care, then it is the sort of club that people are wearing polo necks and berets and saying "jazzz .... nice"

Why shouldn't he? So some clubbers will just go to see him cos he's a big name. Others will go because they know his music will be good...besides it's his choice to push the boundaries that he feels he should head towards...and he's doing something different, DJ's need to evolve and this can be nothing but good for it surely.

This is simply untrue. A large percentage of the crowd at his shows does know, does listen, and does notice. A LARGE percentage.

So, you and many others on this forum (it seems) are simply stereotyping.
This statement - as well as all "mainstream dance clubbers" are mainly
musical morons that need to be on drugs to appreciate the music ..

Is mere grandstanding - makes you feel 'above' something, no? That
you "know better" because your musical taste is so far superior to

imo Airdrawndagger and Involver are really great records overall. A
lot of other peoples opinions too. Is it godlike? No. Is it quality music
well produced and arranged? Yes.

Some of the people here .. again .. are merely grandstanding to make themselves seem more "eclectic and underground" ... lol .. please. So they bash it

As a musician it shouldnt matter if its not to your taste, you should
recognize quality work when you hear it.

Also - I totally agree with the earlier poster, that there is a high percentage of minimal techno and glitch producers here.

Said music (IMO) is extremely technical (grid editing, granualar stuff),
esoteric, and ... unless done really interesting ... almost entirely
lacking in emotion, harmony, and melody

That stuff takes way more technical tweaking and electronic tricks than
musical inspiration. Sour grapes maybe? Dunno ...

PS - Anonymouse ... not singling you out here ... this bashing of
mainstream producers is just annoying on this forum, I felt like
ranting

i would have to say that the set i saw him do on ableton in fabric in dec was great, he put the thing to great use and seemed to be enjoying himself. Picking up on a previous post i dont think he potrays himself as a producer, he is quite shy by all accounts and many of the things said about him are said about his fans. BTW he hasntdone the whitney thing in about 13 years, thats not his alley, it was back then when that was the thing. i think a lot of people comment without listening to the stuff he does, a good example is the bloke that brought back involver. i didnt like it at first, i listened to it for a month or so and now i couldent do without it.

Yeah see.......Jazz can be cool

But as I said...he's pushing the boundaries HE feels he should....not necessarily those everyone should push towards....he's just doing his thing his own unique way. Wish I'd gone to Fabric in December now!

i think i just caught him on a bad night live, and I was disappointed.

i still love to listen to lots of his old stuff, never grown tired of it and airdrawndagger is brilliant.

i suppose, after his longevity, I am just expecting/hoping he goes crazy and hits Miles Davis levels, and that is just off the scale.

but sometimes just seeing Sasha's brand being bandied about like it is a statement of integrity makes me want to be a sasha-basha.

not that wholesale samey-tame commerciality doesn't have its place, but if you listen to some of the tracks that the unsigned talent post on this forum and on other sites, it is not hard to get resentful of the Sasha "cream of the crop" milking a crowd of happy clappers who never get to hear the unpromoted original little people.

Very fair point actually....RE promotion of the under-dogs(little people)
