How to programm alternating sample layers with Sampler?

Post by Pathos V2 » Tue Jun 16, 2009 4:32 pm

Hello,

I imported some older EXS samples. Originally they have 2 alternating multisample-layers via Note-Selection. After the import, the A + B layer play both simultaneously in one Sampler instrument, not alternating.

1) Ho do I programm this with Sampler or a Rack?
2) Can I let them automatically alternate?
A-> B -> A -> B?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Ok, found something with forum search under key word "round robin"

Currently not possible. M4L?

Hi,

you can use Sampler's Sample Selector to achieve a round-robin:

* Open Sampler's Zone tab and align your alternating samples on different ranges of the Sample Selector, e.g. Sample 1 (0-64) and Sample 2 (65-127)
* Go to Sampler LFO Tab and enable LFO 2 with Target A "Sample Selector", Amount 100, Waveform "Square", Rate 0.01Hz, Retrigger "On"

Each note you play will be alternating between Sample 1 and Sample 2 using the Sample selector.

Hope this helps.

hi daniel, sorry but that doesn't work; if the 'retrig' switch is on, the lfo always restarts with each note-on, so it can't move to the next sample select zone until after a note-on. you'll only ever get the first sample playing.

you could turn retrig off, but then you'd have to use the lfo tempo-sync'd and play bang on timing to get the alternating notes. that might not be how you want the round-robin to work, though.

another way is to use the 'random' device in front of Sampler for round-robin notes ('alt' mode - look it up in the manual).

Hi garyboozy,

of course you're right! It should be "Sampe & Hold" instead of Square for the LFO waveform. This isn't a real round robin, more like a randomized alternate.

We're using the Random Pitch Device in Alt mode for drum hits (see Session Drums or Latin Percussion), it won't work for multisamples though.

Best,
Daniel
