I'm trying to create a Type 1 MIDI song with 16 MIDI tracks (each on a different channel) in Ableton and export it to my Roland keyboard's sequencer. Unfortunately, I have found that this is not possible with Ableton. Does anyone know of some free/inexpensive software for OSX that can export Multi-Channel MIDI clips? Thanks!!
Multi-Channel MIDI software? Ableton not the answer?

Thanks for the response.Machinate wrote:how about just real-time recording from Live into the Roland? That would work.
I thought about doing that. I was hoping to be able to import SMFs (that had been exported from my Juno) into the software.
This is what I'll do if I can't figure out a better back & forth workflow. Thanks again.
I might be talking out of my ass here..pajhonka wrote:Thanks for the response.Machinate wrote:how about just real-time recording from Live into the Roland? That would work.

But i think Garage band might be able to do this
15" 2.4 MBP/Live/Sampler/Operator/ Home made Dumble clone/Two Strats/One Jazz Bass.

had this problem yesterday. I made the song in ableton, exported each midi part - imported into reson then exported into type 1 midi. Easy took 10 mins longer than normal

Ableton live 6, X- session , Axiom 25, Mbp 2.2ghz 2gb ram, BCF 2000, Reason 3, Zebra

Did it maintain the different MIDI channels? I have Reason so that would work.grizzler wrote:had this problem yesterday. I made the song in ableton, exported each midi part - imported into reson then exported into type 1 midi. Easy took 10 mins longer than normal
I tried dragging my MIDI clips into Garage Band and it kept crashing...not sure why. I haven't used it very much, so it might need an update?
Retained all the midi data, Also if u make a load of new tracks with just a blank synth on you can send the midi data from abelton back into reason and record it! That also works

Okay, I've given this a go a few different ways now and I cannot get this to export a multi-channel MIDI file from Reason.pajhonka wrote:grizzler wrote:had this problem yesterday. I tried exporting each channel & changing the MIDI buses (Channel 1:Piano, Channel 2: Bass, etc.), but that didn't work.
I also set up ten empty Combinators for my ten MIDI tracks, but that would only allow me to record one at a time.
I also tried plugging each of my Combinator instruments directly into the Hardware Interface.
When I import any of these Reason exported files to my Juno-G, it all ends up on one channel...
I'm confused!

I had this problem too to make a music for a ds game.pajhonka wrote:Hi,

I cannot believe this is so easy to do on cubase or reaper, and no way to do it on ableton. They should fix it.
So try reaper free version (i hope midi tools are not disable in it). very simple.

funny i was just doing this too for a ds game. i guess this kind of thing isnt needed that much anymore. i ended up exporting each track and putting them back together in logic.matt kattle wrote: I had this problem too to make a music for a ds game.

If you are on a mac and have quicktime pro you can open and resave the file, or use this oddly named freeware: Dent du Midi http://homepage.mac.com/beryrinaldo/ddm/

I'm actually in the middle of writing software that does a lot with Midi. This sorta thing is a bit of a pain so I was gonna write a utility to convert files (the midi code is pretty much finished). If you're on PC and don't find a workaround give me a yell. My current way of doing things is using a separate file for each track so I can work with midi from Live easier.
Also I know Sony Acid can export the midi data you need except it adds a track at the start with some sysex text saying 'Made in Acid' or something. I had to to remove that for my purposes but for you it might not matter. Not sure if Reaper can be used but prob worth a try since it's a small download.
