Hey I wanted to say I took some time to actually read some Monome documentation and was able to fix my problems by installing vcp /facepalm You may or may not want to mention it as a requirement for people like me.

Truly exciting stuff once I got it all up and running and was able to mess with MLR for a bit. I suppose I see what all the fuss is about now.

Couple questions:
1) I was using MLR 2.27, but I was curious if MLRV works as well?

2) How are people integrating this with live so far? When I load up Ableton, the APC always seems to switch back to the regular APC screen. I think it would be awesome if I could use soundflower to route a couple channels into MLR and be able to resample on the fly (i'm assuming thats what those inputs are for).

3) Besides MLR, 7up, and 64step.. what other apps do people recommend?

my favorite is the aes-mdb version of MLR 2.27. 12 rewire outs. so you can set up Live as your mixer...mlrV, has some cool features but i don't really like the way it handles presets. super workflow killer for the way I work.

I recommend killing the apc40's automap while your using monome apps. Either that or just delete the stop buttons on all clip slots. I just MIDI map knobs and faders on the apc to controls in Live. Im working on an update to allow you to toggle between monome apps and APC clip grid mode, so stay tuned.

3) Besides MLR, 7up, and 64step.. what other apps do people recommend?

yeah, Molar is the best, also, Boiinngg is super fun.

Yeah, i had 7up going last night, works fine here. Im using 1.1. maybe MIDI isn't set up properly, theres tons of MIDI routing that needs to be set up...

Oh damn MLR V is great! but yes not so user friendly maybe because of the GUI

This will truly push me for buying this Evil APC40

I was amazed by the monome but shipping costs from us to europe raise the price too high for me.
Apc40 has that + faders knobs and now it's really cool for monome apps [maybe even better? thanks to the faders, knobs and extra buttons]

Yeah, It looks like that's the problem your having. I had 7up running last night and it worked fine ( more or less ). I never installed the java update that would mess up 7up.
Barnone says he's working on a fix so keep an eye on that thread...

fixed my drama.i had been opening the monomulator apc40 maxpat file and this was causing the problem.only open up the mxf file.this is in manual,but like a true scorpio i had to do things my way... anyways i have 7up and molar both running smoothly with the apc40/(monome jr)lots of fun.

Flickering lights is a good app to try, it's a java based monome app, it is a multi layered step sequencer with visual feedback, much like the score mode on the Tenori On which blips the lights around the note as it passes on it's cycle.

I also have a 7 group version of the AES MLR which AES created for me for live shows. It auto routes each group to a separate output in rewire or soundflower. I can email a copy to anyone that wants it.

The way I use the monome live is to route MLR to rewire, with 7 separate outputs, each of these get assigned to the input of 7 tracks in Live, which i then stack an effects rack onto to be controlled by the APC40, and also add artillery 2 to each track for additional effects triggered by a midi keyboard (setting 7 midi tracks in Live, assigning each one a different midi channel input - then routed to one of the 7 monome input tracks).

I can then also use the APC40 to fire additional clips by synching MLR with Live, by sending midi clock out of Live to IAC bus 1, and set MLR to receive midi clock on IAC bus 1. (In live preferences, set the midi clock delay to a negative value of your soundcard's latency - e.g. if your soundcard latency is 12ms, set the midi clock delay on IAC bus 1 output to -12ms, the two should then synch perfectly).

This is a lot easier to setup than I have probably explained it, Id be happy to help anyone get it setup if they need help.

Great, in fact if I understood, you proceed the same way as you would do for the monome about latency for sync mlr and ableton.

I played [and surely will] Molar vst with my mpd32, had super fun with it_saying to myself: "what amazing it got to be with the real monome".

Never succeeded to run mlr though... with the apc it seems ok and simple to configure.

Akai and ableton have done a good job with this controler imho.

a real nice addition. btw the midi one was also ok if you are not a big fan and just want to pass your time with it.
