Live 8 won't cue or import mp3 files.

I'm using a new Mac Book Pro running the most recent version of Live 8 Suite.

When I try to cue an mp3 file from the file browser, I get the message "(file) could not be read. The file may be unlicensed or corrupt."

I've updated live, I've updated quicktime, I've installed a bunch of codecs for quicktime including perian, still no luck. It's frustrating because I never had this problem on my pc with earlier versions of Live.

Anyone got any ideas or also having this problem??

no, it mp3's from all different sources. including ones i recorded on my microtrack.

At a time I run into the same problem. The solution was that I did not have enough space in the decode cache. You can check this by opening the preference and choose the file/folder tab. There you can check the path for the cache, the maximum of the cache and the minimum free space of your harddisk.
For instance if you have there a minimum of 30 Gigabytes adjusted but only 20 Gigabytes free space on your harddisk then Live can´t decode you´re mp3s to temporarily wav files into this cache folder.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply Palmer, but I don't think that's it.

Turns out I was mistaken and that the only mp3 files it won't play or cue are those that were recorded on my m-audio microtrack. other mp3's work fine. nevertheless, does anyone have any idea why the microtrack files wouldn't work? they play on anything else and there shouldn't be any rights or licensing restrictions associated with them.

Have you tried sending the log file to technical support at ableton?
I had a similar problem and they looked at the log file and told me to upgrade quicktime which solved the problem that i had.

I get the same problem with mp3's I have bought from several different sites (Beatport, Addictech etc). Ridiculous and causing huge headaches when trying to create new sets.

I'm having the same exact problem from my M-Audio Microtrack II. But its on;y happen once with me recording a DJ set for 7 hours. When I record something shorter, its normal. Anyone on this thread find out whats the problem? Thanks in advance.

This happened to me with a number of samples and as simplistic as it sounds I found changing the name of the file seemed to sort it.

My problem may well have been something different altogether but I thought it worth mentioning.

Hi there , i also hit the same problem today , it drives you mad , i was on the last 5% of finishing a new track and then problems struck like this above , i ended up deleting my Cache folder -over 5,900 bits of data in there also , its the low dick thing though , i,m still using a 2009 white macbook , i only use it for music making , as i,m writing this repliy the thing is still emptying trash so i will get back to you all on this ,if it has helped ? i think i will have to find the samples again though , cheers shane
