Tempelhof Squatting, any board members?
Tempelhof Squatting, any board members?
Is anyone on this board going to the Tempelhof Airport today?

I'm very curious about what's going to happen, as I liked the airport very much.

I'm living 100 metres away from it, so far everythings quite. Some helicopters are flying around, but no signs of war. 1800 police troops with dogs and stuff are here...
Re: Tempelhof Squatting, any board members?
I just saw a parade of 8 police vans fly by towards Tempelhof.
Which is why I'm not there - I can't afford to get arrested right now.

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

A giant meeting point RIGHT under my apartment (S+U Hermannstraße) is happening right now.
So far peaceful.

unless the government has decided to tear Tempelhof down (what did the referendum say?), I'd say hands off!..
I would hate to see it being squatted.. such a nice building/area with a lot of historic value..

It's a closed airport since october in the middle of city and a huge green area for the future. Th city government promised to open the area this spring but they did not do it. I would not go there, the green spaces are totally conterminated with aviation fuel and chemicals.obviously there is an aiport being squatted but why and for what purpose?

neo-liberal? care to elaborate on that term?
Bar-b-que areas, adventure parks, skate parks, gardens? Sounds awesome.
They're going to need a lot more people than that though...

Tempelhof was not a public area so even if future plans mean commercial planning and/or luxurious housing I don't see why people would argue..ewistrand wrote:For why it's happening:Poster wrote:unless the government has decided to tear Tempelhof down (what did the referendum say?), I'd say hands off!..

The comparison to the Spreebank development is completely out of proportion imho..
right.. like Berlin has a shortage of these kind of things, or empty space for that matter..There are countless ideas for uncommercial usage of the land: cheap living places, trailer parks, theatres, intercultural gardens and parks, barbecue areas, cultural centres, skate parks, adventure parks, museums, agricultural use…
Be creative! Go wild! Take the free space!
I'm not against squatting but this is just ridiculous..
mind you; I even ran into a "..come and squat Tempelhof!" flyer in London last month..
the international character of these kind of 'events' just really rub me the wrong way..
Re: Tempelhof Squatting, any board members?
Here in the US, you'd have a public hearing for the rezoning; it doesn't matter if it were public or private land. What's the issue here as far as I can tell is that there wasn't any public forum to discuss potential impact on the surrounding area.Poster wrote:Tempelhof was not a public area so even if future plans mean commercial planning and/or luxurious housing I don't see why people would argue..

what I meant with 'public area' is that the Spreebank area (which is compared to on that blog) is public, so I'd say people are entitled to a strong vote there..
Tempelhof was not a public area.. the impact on the surrounding area can and will only improve because it was an airport in the middle of the city..
Luxurious apparments and buildings for the creative industry will not have a negative impact on the Neukoln area if you ask me..
from reading that article it sounds that people just want to squat Tempelhof because they feel unheard at other city development areas..
imagine what will happen to the Tempelhof building when squatters move in..
graffiti, paint and demolition everywhere.. then try to change it into a nice building again years from now..
mind you, to me Tempelhof is a historic monument.. would hate to see it trashed..
