Effects not working in L6.0.10

Strange - everything was working fine before my hardware upgrade & re-install. Now most of the FX don't work. I can drag them in, and there's no error msg, but no effect either. And there's some other weird behaviours. Looks like I'll just have to re-install, but if anyone's seen this before and has suggestions... cheers!

upgrade to 6.0.11
