APC 40 Volume Control & Special Edition Ableton Question!

Post by cumcd » Tue Jun 23, 2009 3:14 pm

Hey all.

I just received my APC 40 and everything is working just fine, or almost. I think it might be me that is doing something wrong, but nonetheless I'd really like some help!

1. I'm using the normal Ableton 8 Suite with my APC 40. Here's the problem, when I start up a project the controller needs a couple of seconds (8 or so) where I move all the volume control knobs up down before it actually responds on the action on my computer screen. Is this normal or am I doing it wrong? It does it again if I move around to a new scene and haven't "warmed up" those volume knobs.

2. The Special Edition ableton software for APC 40 I got with it, is that comfortable with all OS's? Like MAC OSX too?

3. Can I use my Live 8 Suite project files (which is only .wav files - no packages from suite) in the Special Edition Ableton Software for APC 40 you included in the package?

I hope my questions are pretty clear.
Thanks in advance! :)

Nick

Hi Nick,

1. the faders on the APC 40 don´t require a "warmup" - I assume you have simply selected Takeover mode "Pickup" in Live´s Midi/Sync preferences. This mode is useful to avoid parameter jumps when the position of the physical faders on the APC 40 do not match the faders in Live. When "Pickup" is selected, you have to move an APC 40´s volume fader until you reach the position of the corresponding fader in the program - to pick it up.
If you prefer, you can select Takeover mode "None" in the Midi/Sync preferences to change this behavior.

2. the Live Akai edition coming with the APC 40 is compatible with OS X, Xp and Vista, but...

3. ...if you´re already a Live 8 owner, there´s little point in using the version included with the APC, as this is a feature limited version, not offering any extra functionality. It´s aimed at users who don´t own Live yet. Your Live 8 projects also won´t open in Live 7 Akai edition.

Best,
Jörg
