maybe your hard drive is on the way out too? is it the original drive?thedeadsea wrote:Cheers for the feedback people! I'll try and find a way to get the MBP cushioned a bit more and see if that's the answer... Strange though, cause I have done plenty of really loud gigs in the past where it's been smooth sailing...

Re: Audiio dropouts ONLY on stage
yeah i have wondered if maybe my hard drive is entering its twilight years... it is the original.
I've done all the tests with Tech tools, and all good - can anyone recommend any apps that REALLY put it through its paces to see if it's doing what it should be???

Re: Audiio dropouts ONLY on stage
you could try Integrity from the SpeedTools suite, or DiskTester...
however if the drive is that old i would seriously consider replacing it anyway... sounds like it has had a long hard life already...

oh, and if you do replace the drive, make sure you get one without a built-in shock sensor, since your Mac already has it's own SMS thingy...

Re: Audiio dropouts ONLY on stage
i'm still having problems with dropouts too.
for me mainly when i'm djing with live and add an mp3 track, during the decoding phase (mp3 to wave). it seems like the hard drive overloads or something. but only happens when i play in a club. i tried cushioning my laptop with a sweater underneath but it doesnt seem to help much. any ideas?

Any suggestions for good replacement 7200rpm drives for a MBP?

A sweater? Maybe it's overheating? Maybe there's some utilities you can install for xp that can monitor the temperature and the fans and see if there's a correlation...?twitterytom wrote:i'm still having problems with dropouts too.

how about this:thedeadsea wrote:Any suggestions for good replacement 7200rpm drives for a MBP?

actually i'm gonna pop one of these in my MBP this week too...
remember that for the best performance you want lots of extra space (e.g. check out the graph on that page)...

Friend of mine uses those Tucano things, help a bit for both airflow and vibrations.Easy to stick and remove

i'm going to buy a 16gb usb memory stick to use as ableton's temporary files folder. that should solve the problem of my hard disk overloading on stage when it decodes mp3s shouldn't it?

Hey! Nice suggestion... I installed one of these this week, transferred everything over and played a show in Stockholm last night without a glitch...
Cheers!

Re: Audiio dropouts ONLY on stage
this is a great thread- does anyone know if it is difficult to replace the hard drive in an older (non unibody) macbook pro?
