Behold, Operator Synthdrum

Post by porfiry » Tue Jun 23, 2009 6:00 am

Greetings, I've dumped a full work-week's wortha labor into this puppy, just so YOU could be happy. :P

5 kits, 80 presets, all Operator. Created in 8.0.4, so expect total chaos if you try opening it in something earlier.

Price: $0, unless you want to donate, which I've made provisions for. Please leave your loving and hating comments (links to your own modules, perhaps?) here. Hopefully more on the loving side. Rock the fack out.

Sweet, glad to hear it. I've been having a lot of fun slopping together new kits with it too. My plan is to use it on everything in the foreseeable future until I have a whole album/set worth of material. Part of it was not being able to afford an Elektron or whatever, part of it is to limit myself...cut down my options a bit so I can actually get some stuff done.

Regarding the quad core, yeah, this thing can get a little hoggy if you hash together a clip that uses a bunch of the voices, or if you keep running the midi clips alongside several other tracks in an increasingly-complex song you're working on. Definitely have to start thinking about either freezing the track or immediately making an audio clip when you come up with a new section of beat.

Note: you really don't wanna accidentally leave this drum rack in Auto mode with a full-on clip playing...that's a recipe for beach-ball meltdown. Auto is wicked handy when you're dialing in the sounds, though.

No problemo, thanks for the kind comments. I've only gotten into both racks in general as well as Operator pretty recently, but it was my plan to give it away the whole time I was building it. I love the frickin' internet. And music. And Ableton. Hope I hear some recordings from it. Please, please post 'em.

I believe the expression is "this shit is dope". Yes, that's the expression:

THIS SHIT IS DOPE

are you on the share beta, I have a set I'd like to share with you that uses this, it is very simple, not too many changes from the original.

[edit] I don't want to share it public because it will include the thing and you should have the best opportunities to get doughnations.

No, I somehow completely blew off the part where I was supposed to sign up for the share. My email address is on the synthdrum page though...if you zip your set it should be easily emailable, I got mine down to 300k.

Loving the positive vibes, and the fact that 200 people have looked at the thing now. I kind of suspected anything involving drums might generate at least *some* degree of interest. :P

Just started messing with this last night. Thanks a lot! The set takes a while to load for me and seems fairly resource intensive. That's not a complaint, I'm just wondering if I am going to need a hardware upgrade. I can see that once I start adding in new soft synths I'll have to bounce really quickly which kills flow. My specs are Core2Duo E6850 (3ghz), 2 GB RAM, 7200RPM SATA, Vista Home Premium Sp2 32-bit

Yeah, it defintely takes a while to load because, well, 80 Operators! Without some pretty big computing power you definitely are looking at some kind of bouncing or freezing once a few additional tracks start coming in.

I have a machine I'm just using as a DVR, that I've been thinking about bringing back in to my rig to take a load off my macbook, because fuck TV anyway, yo! :x
