Audio Interface for Powerbook G4?
I've given up trying to find one that works in OSX so now I just want one that works...I really wanted the VX Pocket but I hear it has problems. Anyone have something good to say about ANY interface/card being used with Live and/or Reason and a Powerbook G4? Steer me the right way, please.

interface for PowerBook
I have a PowerBook G3 but hopefully the following will still be useful for you.
I used to have a VX Pocket. It sounds good but it has problems. Physically, the break-out cable, where it connects to the card, was too fragile for my liking. Also, only having XLR analog ins and outs can be a bit of a pain sometimes (OK, I know you can buy adaptors...) Digigram always seemed pretty slow to update drivers, too (so you'll probably be waiting a while for OS X drivers). It took a long time for it to be compatible with Pro Tools Free, for example. Lastly, it's expensive for a 2in/2out card (it's analog OR digital; not both at the same time).
I sold it and bought an RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface with PC Card. Works like a charm with Reason, Logic and Live (as far as I can tell); very stable, low latency, sounds at least as good as the VX Pocket, and can do 18in/20out simultaneously. Per channel it's a lot cheaper than the Digigram card.
RME are apparently working on the OS X driver, though I don't know when it's expected to be ready. The biggest pain for me is that there's no Sound Manager support, so you can't use it for Pro Tools Free, and you can't play your CDs/MP3s through it.
Actually, I don't think there's much contest between the two: if you can get hold of a Multiface, go buy one.
Hope that's of some help to you...

MOTU 828
I'm really considering the purchase of a MOTU 828 for expansion purposes. While USB is nice for a keyboard controller - or even the Tascam 428 - I can definitely see the advantage of FireWire connectivity.

Here at the "CreativeSynth Lab", we've been using the VX Pocket for some time - it works well, and hasn't given us any problems.
One modification we made was to remove the XLR ins/outs and replace them with plastic jacketed TRS 1/4" jacks. Makes the breakout cable less ungainly, and helps prevent inadvertant "pull-out".
As far as the OS9 drivers - they are working very well for us.
We also just got the new MOTU 896. The MOTU firewire interfaces seem to have some issues once the load gets high (>65%), but the sound is awesome...

I posted this in a separate thread, but just in case you're interested, this is what Björk has got to say about this topic:
I recently got a thing that's become a favorite called MOTU 828. It's a firewire rack that replaces the soundcard, which means I can plug my microphone straight into my laptop, and it's got the best recording quality there is.
Welll- probably got paid for it.

G4 Powerbook user here, I use Novation Nio, love it. Depends on what I/O you want and whether you are happy with USB.
