strange, usually when great people in the music world die I kinda wig out, with this one I feel nothing.

respect to the fans though, just because I don't get it doesn't make it wrong.
there's a demo of one of his songs from off the wall, that he and janet do a capella, bobby mcferrin style, and sent to quincy jones; it screams musical talent even if he wasn't up on music theory. plus any kid that can sing like he did has music runnin thru his veins man...
And don't forget the dancing as well, that was a huge part of his entertainment value.

Between the reissues, greatest hits, unreleased and archived tapes......there is a bundle waiting to be made...Maybe this will end up a profitable year for the industry?
Or will his reputation ruin it all?
All the news outlets are reporting that iTunes is getting barraged with MJ downloads. There has also been talk of a vault-full of backlogged material that could be released for years to come a-la Tupac, so yes I think it could be very profitable for some people.
I wonder if it will positively impact the entire music industry, from a sales perspective.....People getting nostalgia and buying the music of their glory days.....

fucking pathetic. sure, it makes perfect sense from a business perspective. however, whoever chooses to exploit someone's death, ala mel gibson, eminem, suge, etc., is, imo, the LCD. wanna honor someone's memory??? money should NOT be a factor, esp profit.

can't wait for the essential MJ collection, including hours of unreleased, never before heard/seen material not available anywhere else. this will be the only MJ collection i will ever need.

I'm sad about this, but also mad about a couple of things, some in a little bit irrational way. I am not a giant fan of his music, but I also appreciate it and like a fair amount of it. I feel like he cheated the world by not letting us know more about his personal history, and his perceptions of the whole Motown phenomenon that he was part of, but I can understand why recounting that may just have been too painful for him.

He basically saved the music industry in the 80s, but he went from a place where he could do no wrong to a place where everything he did was scoffed at.

At the point where he had gotten past the Thriller days, Michael Jackson was viciously mocked, I think to the point that everything that was written or said about him he may have interpreted as mockery. In terms of his 'wacko weirdness' in many ways he was less weird than a lot of fringe musicians or artists, but because his appeal was so mainstream it was like he wasn't allowed to be weird-- it was almost like he wasn't allowed to be African American.

The whole thing with the children is definitely disturbing, and his childhood history of abuse is also disturbing. But it seems like there were more people around him that were willing to live off of him and let him deteriorate in any way he cared to other than any around him that would truly help him.

So it is sad that he died, in a way that is looking more and more like the way Elvis went, and it is
a sad commentary that everyone is coming out to say what a great talent he was after he's dead. [edit] Where were they when he needed their help?

If this thread ended with those last few posts, I might actually stop feeling like I need to take a shower. Thanks for a little civility.

FYI I didn't post MJ jokes because I hate him or believe him guilty etc. but because they're funny.
I rarely think it's wise to take public figures who are accused and convict them, but if a slew of jokes comes of it, I'm there.

So you got the joke, well fix it then, otherwise it's peanut gallery BS. Damn? it's only been a day or two, I'm sure they'll get better. :)

No, not funny.

Privately with others that think the same. You bet, let it rip.

In a group of who knows who? no.

By the same token, why not tell your gay bashing and Hitler jokes in this forum?

Just start an MJ joke thread. Problem solved.

and this would surprise you? Be sure it's happening.

Hell, I'm even willing to bet that Hollywood execs were scrambling all over the place a few minutes after the death was confirmed, trying to get the movie rights.

I just wonder what the cast will be like. Anyone venture a guess?

Dude, no more than an hour after he was announced dead on the radio, not on Fox, CNN, BBC, none of that, there was already a Facebook MJ RIP group with just about 10,000 members/fans...

I've told gay and hitler jokes here. Humor is the one area that should have zero rules, no exceptions! Once you do, you become the thing you're trying to prevent, prejudiced.

Disagree, MJ was of course human, and I agree he was probably innocent, but fame, and wealth come at a price. The lowly and poor get to mock you, they get to buy cheap stupid magazines telling half fabricated truths about you, they get to judge you in the court of public opinion (which of course is biased against you)..... all this is in trade for being an icon, for being famous. Michael Jackson could have disappeared and retired, but he didn't, so whether or not he would admit it, he was addicted to the adoration, and along with that concentrated attention comes jokes in poor taste.

Think about it, others here have accused MJ of being guilty, not me, all I've done is say some stupid jokes. You're defending him against jokes? Lame.

Cardiac arrest? Well I guess his heart couldn't just beat it.

Looking like a possible drug overdose today. That sucks, and makes sense. :?

I know a few people that worked with him in the studio.

While not really being a proficient instrumentalist, he WOULD literally sing ALL the parts to the musicians/arrangers note for note, chord for chord - from his head. He would have the entire thing in his head and dictate it. Harmonies, string parts, bass lines, guitar licks, etc... They said it was pretty amazing.
