Ableton Instruments

Post by McQ714 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 5:36 pm

This isn't a complaint about the instruments themselves but rather for the lack of creativity and uniqueness of the names of the instruments.

Sampler - could this be any more generic? Sampler would've been a creative name if it was an instrument designed to play back midi patterns using Microsoft Sam's voice.

Electric - meant to sound like classic electric pianos. really put some thought into it didn't we?

Analog - same comment as Electric

Operator - don't even know how that even applies to FM synthesis. i'm pretty sure the phone company never used fm frequencies for phone calls.

Collision and Tension are ok, but Corpus doesn't make sense either. The only use of corpus in music is to describe the overall length of a violin.

I'm ok with the sampled instruments as they are basically just sounds, and you would want to know what is sampled when selecting it.

I just think they could've been a little more creative with the names of the built-in instruments.

I like them to be honest.
Nice and Clean and they dont beat around the bush with stupid multi-meaning exotic salesman names.

but they have.. and that's the part that doesn't make sense to me! otherise, collision would simply be called mallet and tension would be called string thing.

I never really thought about it before but I think I'm a fan of simple, generic names over ridiculous names that were created by some marketing department in a boardroom.

Let the sounds these instruments are capable of do all the expressing. Not their names.

What about?

Sam for Sampler
O.P. for Operator
Ecleftic
Old School
&
Corpse

I will license you the right to call them that for $399.00 or $299.00 if you're a *NEW* customer.

Corpus = "body", as in the mallet or bar being a modeled body of a substance.

Personally, they could call it "Donkey Punch" and it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me.

I'm still waiting for Propellerheads to release ReTarded.

.. And what's with Ableton calling the program "Live" anyways? So unoriginal and boring! It should be called something cool like "Ableton insta-tweakeriffic-loop-mashy-DAW-performerizer". or something.

nice to see that people haven't lost their sense of humor in this economy... just their jobs, money, and homes! and maybe their minds too!

I think the problem you have is that they are just one word, which is way too simple. I've renamed them for you so you feel like you're getting more words for your money...

!! Introducing Ableton Not Dead (yet) Still Mostly Alive, Economoic Recovery Edition 2020 Deluxe+, version 12.3.2.1a-04 (beta 67) !!

New Features:
* The only point of this beta release is to rename instruments to longer names.

Known Issues:
* Longer names cause random crashes.

Sampler - "sample player deluxe ableton supreme world domination 2000 extra value edition"

Electric - "electrification sound producing device - ultimate edition XP, service pack 6, now with knobs"

Analog - "sounds like analog but isn't and doesn't really sound like analog noise production module 2002+, with super amazingly brilliant but not so amazingly brilliant confusion expansion pack, included extra redundant support features available (not included)'

Operator - "2008_no_spaces_hi-fi_value_edition"

Collision - "two pots and a wooden spoon carolina kitchen edition 2010"

Tension - "headache producing noise generator, with excedrin pack"

Corpus - "carpel tunnel inducer, deplux light lawyer love edition"
