recording audio erases previous automation

Post by chevron » Mon Jun 08, 2009 9:01 am

i cant find advice anywhere so thought you guys may know.

i have an audio track. i recording audio from an external source.i used a controller to also record track volume automation.
i wanted to re record the audio, but not re record the automation.
re recording the audio erases the automation.
how do i record audio and keep the automation?

i have tried clicking the OVR button, but that is just for midi.
i have tried locking envelopes.locking envelope doesnt prevent recording. it only prevents moving automation, or prevents automation being copied over when u paste an audio clip.

i want record my external synths filters in on an audio channel, and have the volume of the incoming audio control by automation, as i record. but the recording process itself wipes out the automation.

is it possible to record audio without destroying the automation?

Hi Chevron,

it is not possible to record audio and keep the automation data at the same time, it will always be overwritten. Workaround: copy the envelope over to another track, record, copy/paste the envelope back to the original track.

this would be a good change for a future update.
an option to keep the automation, but record audio.
that why i can play the keyboard and sing. and have it turn the volume of the imput up as i sing etc.
