No Sound

Post by zed » Thu Jul 09, 2009 7:54 pm

Hi I just bought Ableton 8.0 and downloaded the upgrade to 8.04. I was going through the lessons last night and the sound for the demos were working fine but occasionally some of the other instruments i loaded would not. I had them armed and the small level indicator would go up and down when I struck a letter on my keyboard (I don't have a midi keyboard setup up) so I know it was registering, but no sound would come out. This morning the same thing was happening but now even the demos will not produce sound, although it loads fine and everything.

During one of the lessons on Recording I went through, there was a side lesson about setting up audio I/O, I went through that as well (until I figured out I don't have outside instruments set up with my computer yet, doh) and it took me to the audio tab under 'preferences' where there's a test tone and one can adjust tone volume and cpu usage similator etc... yesterday when i clicked the test tone to on, a tone registered, today, it does not.

I'm pretty new in working with this software so I may be missing something very obvious, any help is much appreciated.

My computer is a Dell running Windows Vista, I have plenty of memory etc and have Ableton 8.04. Thanks!

I also downloaded an ASIO Driver, ASIO4ALL, and have that option selected in lieu of the MME/DirectX for an audio driver.

I would suggest using the Asio4All driver. Especially if you want to try out the instruments, other drivers will have to much 'latency', that is a delay between you hit a key and the sound you hear.

if you want to play an instrument, make sure, the track you loaded the instrument on, is armed (click on the the 'record' button so it turns red)

ahhh, still having some issues, the audio will work with ableton, then not work for say youtube or some internet application, but then i restart my computer and a demo i'm watching on youtube will have sound but then no sound comes from ableton live. i had to switch back to MME/DirectX to get sound to come through Ableton Live and when i try to switch back to ASIO the test sound does not register. sigh.

hm, you can try to select 'no audio' under preferences>audio, before you switch to youtube and turn it back on, when you go back to Live

ty mono, one more thing if you have the time. I loaded a live set by double clicking from the file browser and clicked on one of the clips (in session view), the beat loaded down in clip view (down at the bottom in session view) and i press play which makes the cursor move over the notes from left to right and repeat, yet no sound is produced. If I click on the metronome IT clicks and that sound is produced, yet not the actual kicks, snares hats etc. of the clip. I may be leaving out something simple or could it be an issue with the Operator? I have the demo version of Suite 8 running and occasionally i did some things where I got warning signs about the operator. This set DID load tho with no Operator warning signs so I'm guessing it's more on the simple side, I'm searching through the manual and all that.

I have the same problem. Ableton Live 8 - Asio4all 2.9 with KeyRig 49 keyboard.

If I have been on say media player or you tube and decide to make a bit of music myself, I get no sound although green bars move up and down. If I choose MME/DirectX I get sound albeit with little latency. Then if I select ASIO4all, sound stops. The only way I can get this sound back is by rebooting the machine.

I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2. All help appreciated - I have installed latest driver for the keyboard. Rebooting is a pain. Never had this problem with Live 6 - so it is possible that ASIO4all 2.9 is not compatible with Live 8. I have tried ASIO4all 2.10 beta as well - no difference.

Thanks in advance.
