APC40 remapping

Post by techtom » Fri Jul 03, 2009 2:13 am

Hey just got my APC40 today and I love it. Only problem is I cant get it to remap at all? I basicly want to turn the pans into 4 channels of hi and low eq and use the scene launch buttons as LOOP/start/end. When i open up the midi map and select the parameter in ableton and then turn any nob it just doesnt seem to register and no new map is created in the midi map list??? All the defaults work fine but nothing seems to want to remap??? Really hope im missing something obvious? Changing tracks to eq is not good. Any help much appreciated guys!

don't remap anything. set it up as a control surface (options-preferences-midi) and also in the midi in/out. check the directions.

Check this out
'Do I need to own Max For Live to make the APC40 work?

No, unless you want to edit the standard template and do funky things like step sequencers and drum rack support. [/i]

I'm pissed at this, apparently you cannot change the default template unless you have 'MAX'
So dude I think you've done all you can here, I hope I'm wrong I really do,If I am let me know cos this is pissing me right off, although when I use 'Absynth' I can remap anything although I am using' midi learn in 'Absynth', I guess it's a nice play to get you to buy 'MAX LIVE'
Again,I hope I'm wrong,I've sent a mail to the support peeps, I'll post they're reply when it comes.

Hi Rob,

please make sure that you have not only selected the APC 40 as a control surface with the input/output port, but also activated "Track" and "Remote" for the APC´s input ports in the track list below.

If you read my last post you'd know I took it back and posted the reply from the help desk which has fixed the problem no worries, however the post on MAX is true,it was a cut and pasted from the Ableton website.

it wasn't totally clear and there's a LOT of bad info that gets posted and repeated. lots going on these days and the voodoo that is max4Live being kept in secrecy doesn't help.

just trying to keep things clear, no offense intended.

i have a question, when i select track & remote, yes I can re map but the original mappings, well some of them seem to change, I want to keep the default apc40 mappings but just change the pans to something more useful and the cue level to bpm. any ideas? Thanks

Hi guys,

Same question as above, when i can actually force the APC40 to allow remapping it discards all of the defaults (clip launch button becomes a note key?). Cant you just remap certain buttons and leave the rest the way they are? I have read and understand the above posts. Any help is much appreciated. ez

I actually sorted it, i had an old template set that was with my BCR2000 and BCF2000 so when i switched to remote, it defaulted to these and confused the apc40 and me... So i trashed the template and built a new one from scratch, when switching to remote the apc kept the original settings and then i was able to change pans etc...nice!
