Which OS and how to test?

Post by Tekkas » Thu Jul 09, 2009 10:04 am

Hey guys, what is the best way to go about testing live with different OS without chewing thru multiple unlock authorizations?
Can you use trial version for this purpose.I am trying to decide between win xp pro 32, 64 bit and win 7 32 and 64 bit, and i have already used my two unlocks.I cant be the only one experimenting with this surely?
Any suggestions?

Ok, ableton wrote me back with the answer.Would still be interested in what you guys think is the ideal OS for use with Live and music production in general. From what i've read Vista is not worth bothering with, but there is still the win xp,xp pro,win 7 32 or 64 bit deal going on.I was using xp pro but decided to try win 7 64 bit which was awesome IMO but was not supported yet by my NI Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface,so i downgraded to 32 bit win 7,which is running smoothly with abe but latency is no better with my AK1 than it was with xp pro.
Oh and please dont tell me to buy a MAC, i cant afford one.

cheers.

last year i´ve also installed mac os x on my dell laptop. unfortunately the latency on os x sucks with my firewire soundcard. my latencies are much better under win. i´d ask in the NI forum what latencies you can expect with their usb soundcards before building a hackintosh system and installing os x.
