OT : Mac Pro vs Mac Pro

Post by rsagevik » Fri Jul 10, 2009 1:01 pm

I'm considering a Mac Pro 8-core at the moment and was wondering..
What would be the wisest choice.
A used Mac Pro 8 core 3 ghz with 16GB memory (previous generation Mac Pro)
or
The current default version of the 8 core Mac Pro 2.26 ghz with 6GB memory

any thoughts?

i'd get the newer one because of the updated hardware and generally i don't go for any used electronics.

Buying used Macs through their refurb shop has received the highest of praise. Many people only buy their Macs using that method, a slightly older model at a reduced price. Plus they get an even more detailed inspection by Apple than the new ones that roll off the robot assembly line.

Maybe on most things it's a bad idea to buy used but that isn't the case with Apple, at least when you get a refurb through them.

Go to the Apple store site and type in refurbished in the search at the top and that will give you a link to their reburb section. A lot of great deals there on all their hardware products.

If you don't need your Mac Pro right this second, wait until Sept. when 10.6 comes out and by then the new machines should start trickling in to the refurb section. All the new graphics feature (Open CL etc) will probably work on newer models only, knowing Apple

Is it worth getting one of these now?

Will there be hardware updates in September, or is it just the OS?
