Ableton 7 or Ableton 8?

Post by Treemaculate » Sat Jul 11, 2009 5:41 am

Up till now I've been using a demo version of Ableton 8, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. I'm going to be making my purchase soon, and was planning on buying Ableton 8, until I started noticing how many complaints of crashes (specifically the random crashes) all over this forum. Once I purchase Ableton, I will be upgrading to a Macbook Pro, and I'm going to be gigging with this computer. My question is this: if I'm looking for stability, would I be better off purchasing Ableton 7, rather than 8? It seems like Ableton 7 is very stable, and while there are some features of 8 I really prefer (i.e. the fact that when I go to quantize my loop it jumps into place without having to click "OK" each time), the last thing I can afford to have happen is Ableton crash on me in the middle of a gig.

Thanks for advice.
